Lamna Financials’ High-End Pawnbroking Index Highlights Shift in the Market

How Modern Pawnbroking is Shaking Off Its Negative Perception
The image of pawnbroking is transforming as wealthy individuals increasingly turn to high-end pawnbroking for short-term liquidity. Driven by growing demand from affluent clients, pawnbroking is evolving into a sophisticated financial service for asset-rich individuals seeking discreet and efficient funding options.
Lamna Financial, a leading high-end pawnbroker in South Africa, is at the forefront of this shift.
“Pawnbroking has undergone a fundamental change, erasing the old stigma,” says Charles Meyerowitz, CEO of Lamna Financial. “High-net-worth individuals are leveraging their luxury cars, fine art, jewellery, and even rare watches as collateral to quickly unlock liquidity, bypassing the red tape of conventional banking.”
Lamna’s High-End Pawnbroking Index
The Lamna Financials’ High-End Pawnbroking Index (LHPI) highlights this growing trend. “Recent LHPI data shows an 81% increase in loan value for August, indicating a sharp rise in transactions among wealthy clients and a significant boost in the average loan size over the past year,” explains Meyerowitz. This demonstrates that pawnbroking has become a tailored service, allowing clients to access capital using high-value assets swiftly and privately.
“Pawnbroking now provides a win-win situation for those needing liquidity without risking long-term financial security,” Meyerowitz adds.
Private Lending and the Changing Financial Landscape
The LHPI reveals a 34% increase in the average loan size, emphasising that affluent individuals are increasingly open to exploring pawnbroking as a quick and flexible alternative. Meyerowitz explains, “The speed and efficiency of pawnbroking appeal to our clients. Traditional banks can be slow, requiring extensive credit checks and risking asset forfeiture, whereas pawnbroking offers a streamlined, non-invasive solution.”
Despite an uptick in Private Sector Credit, which increased by 1.45% to its highest level since July 2023, Lamna's continued growth highlights an enduring need for high-end liquidity options.
A New Era of Discreet, Asset-Based Lending
Lamna Financial is positioning itself as a leader in this modern pawnbroking landscape. With a focus on transparency and discretion, the company serves clients needing immediate access to funds for various reasons, from business investments to luxury purchases or covering short-term expenses.
“Our clients can access millions of rands within twenty-four hours, something traditional lenders cannot match,” Meyerowitz explains. Lamna has provided loans against an array of assets, including luxury cars, yachts, and even a private jet. The average loan-to-value ratio for high-end assets ranges from 50% to 70%, offering substantial liquidity.
A Viable Solution for High-Net-Worth Clients
“Whether it’s funding a business opportunity, financing a luxury purchase, or managing short-term cash flow, high-end pawnbroking is becoming a credible financial solution for the affluent,” says Meyerowitz. “This new era of pawnbroking prioritises discretion, convenience, and financial empowerment.”
