The 91st Swartland Show will once again be held at the Moorreesburg Show Grounds in Moorreesburg from Wednesday 3 to Saturday 6 6 September this year.
This is not just an agricultural show – it's a four-day experience packed with business opportunities, world-class implement exhibitions and displays, interactive exhibits, live demonstrations, family entertainment, a brand-new fun area for children, market stalls, a petting farm, restaurants, and a wine garden – that will create a warm and festive atmosphere.
AGRICULTURAL HIGHLIGHTS YOU CAN'T MISS
The various small livestock championships will once again captivate visitors this year, but the major attraction on Saturday (6 September) is the sheep shearing championship. Come listen to Tinus du Plessis, South Africa's own sheep shearing king and a national and international recordholder.
On 22 April this year, Du Plessis, together with Aidan Copp from New Zealand, set a world record for shearing the most Merino lambs as a two-person team in all but 9 hours. They managed to shear a staggering 970 lambs in total – Aidan with 523 and Tienie with 447. Tienie's 447 lambs also bagged him the solo record.
The stage is also set this year for the 8 top beef cattle breeds vying for the coveted titles of Senior Champion Bull, Senior Champion Cow, and Supreme Breed Champion at the Swartland Show. The Romagnola breed will also make its debut appearance at the show this year. Other cattle breeds include Herefords, Simmentalers, Red Angus, Black Angus, Santa Gertrudis, Charolais, and Sussex.
At the Youth Show on Wednesday, 3 September, more than 250 competitors will participate in 16 disciplines at the Western Cape Qualifying Regional Show. New categories such as Culinary Arts, Photography, and Dairy Processing will provide even more excitement this year. The Swartland Show recently received the award for Best Youth Show Provider at the Agri-Expo congress – an achievement the show organisers are very proud of.
HORSEPOWER AND TRADITION
Horse enthusiasts can look forward to the Vlaamperd SA Championships and the SA Saddle Horse Championship. In addition to that, the impressive 8-span wagon horses will once again present a display on Saturday that annually attracts and captivates audiences from across the country. Be sure not to miss that!
FOR THE LADIES, CHILDREN AND CONNOISSEURS
The Swartland Show will also be treating all the women during their annual ‘Ladies' Day’ on Wednesday, 3 September. This event is a highlight on the programme every year, with more than 500 women enjoying a day of inspiration, fashion, companionship, and delicious food. Boys R Back will take us back to the golden era of "boybands" in an exciting performance, while Lizz Meiring will entertain us with her "Real Housewife" solo show.
Children will be thrilled with the new children's play area filled with fun activities and entertainment including bungee trampolines, paintball, jumping castles, go-karts, and much more.
Popular artists and top-class musical entertainment will form part of the Swartland Show programme from Thursday evening (4 September). The musicians include:
- Thursday evening, 4 September: Wynand and Chereé and DJ Louis van Lill
- Friday evening, 5 September: New Horizon, Brendan Peyper and DJ Wico
- Saturday, 6 September: Step by Step Dance School, MG Pro Voices, Chris Rain, Ruan Theron, Irene-Louise Van Wyk, Tamlyn Wessels, ONS, Chris Steyn, Danny Smoke and DJ Stevie
An exciting new addition to the show offering this year is the Swartland Show’s very own Tent Village, offering camping accommodation at the show grounds for festivalgoers and exhibitors.
AGRICULTURE'S FUTURE IN FOCUS
The popular agricultural breakfast event on Friday, 5 September carries the following theme this year: "Farming's Future – We separate the wheat from the chaff." Speakers including Theo Vorster, Prof. Johan Fourie, Tobias Doyer, and JP Landman will inspire guests and share valuable insights about the future of agriculture.
OUR SINCERE GRATITUDE
Without sponsors, partners, and donors, we could not have kept the Swartland Show running for 91 years. We would like to sincerely thank every person who is part of our success story. And finally, to our COMMUNITY – they play an indispensable role and are the HEART OF SWARTLAND SHOW!
COME EXPERIENCE COUNTRY HOSPITALITY AT ITS BEST
The organisers of the Swartland Show encourage visitors to purchase their tickets in advance online via TIXSA at https://tickets.tixsa.co.za/event/swartlandskou-moorreesburg
