Leopard's Leap is delighted to welcome both a new winemaker for the acclaimed brand's portfolio of wines for the global market as well as a new chef for the popular restaurant at its Franschhoek home.
James Ochse started as the new Leopard's Leap Winemaker on 1 March 2026. Joining the team from his position as Senior Winemaker of KWV Red Wines, James brings a wealth of knowledge and experience gained through his Stellenbosch education and work at some of South Africa's leading wine cellars. His career has also included harvest seasons in New Zealand's Marlborough region and California’s Napa Valley.
Passionate about the outdoors, James draws inspiration from the diversity of South African terroir and has a deep respect for winemaking traditions as well as the charm of the country’s unique heritage. He is excited to be part of the dynamic world of Leopard's Leap Wines and looks forward to reflecting the variety and quality of local vineyards in the brand’s portfolio. For him, the greatest reward will be knowing that people around the world are pouring a glass of Leopard's Leap wine when relaxing with friends or gathering with family around the table.
Talking about tables, Chef William Cornelissen recently joined the team to lead the kitchen of the popular Leopard's Leap Restaurant and continue the brand’s legacy of deliciousness on the table. With more than 25 years of experience as both a chef and consultant in kitchens across the Winelands, particularly in the culinary capital of Franschhoek, William brings a wealth of expertise to the role.
His love for classic French cooking is centred on using seasonal ingredients, maintaining everyday quality and paying close attention to detail. These principles are evident in every dish on the newly announced menu. Guests can expect a selection of light and bright small plates, beautiful burgers, delicious pizzas and, of course, the famous Leopard’s Leap braaibroodjie.
The popular Rotisserie lunches remain focused on bringing families and friends together and are now offered exclusively on Saturdays and Sundays. Weekday lunches have been given a fresh interpretation, complemented by wine suggestions from the new winemaker.
While both are masters of their individual crafts, this formidable duo shares a passion for ensuring pleased palates. They are already collaborating on exciting new food and wine ideas that will be announced soon.
The Leopard's Leap team is energised by these new additions and looks forward to sharing this fresh momentum with fans of Leopard's Leap food and wine.
