Reasons Rocky Bay Resorts is the best place for family fun this Easter!
Submitted by: Agnes MatladiThe Easter holidays are almost here and it’s time to start planning some family-fun activities in the natural world. The seaside is always a holiday highlight, and on the KZN South Coast, with its calm seas and mild autumn weather, there is no place better to visit.
“Whether you’re looking for a spot to sunbathe and relax at the seaside, or somewhere that has a variety of outdoor adventure activities, Rocky Bay Resorts is the perfect Easter holiday spot,” explained Annien Koulountis, Resorts Manager at Rocky Bay Resorts in Scottburgh. “This is truly a one-stop destination with our on-site dive charters, bike shop, and restaurant; great facilities, nature trails, and beaches all within walking distance. There’s something for everyone at Rocky Bay, and with our great holiday specials, this is an affordable destination for families as well.”
For those who need some convincing, here are 9 reasons why Rocky Bay Resorts is the place to be this Easter.
1. Holiday specials
Take advantage of the upcoming long weekend with the Rocky Bay Resorts holiday specials. They’re currently running the the End Summer Promo Lodge special until 26 April, which means that guests booking for the Easter weekend from 7 to 10 April will enjoy 25% off selected A & B cabins. [Note this cannot be used in conjunction with any other Rocky Bay Resorts accommodation special. Ts & Cs apply].
2. Family-friendly facilities
Rocky Bay Resorts is very conveniently positioned, and it also includes a range of top-notch facilities which can be enjoyed by guests. Those staying at the Log Cabins and Caravan Park have access to a jungle gym, trampoline, swimming pool including baby pool, volleyball, and games room with pool tables, table tennis tables and dart boards with 24-hour security, access-controlled gates, and secure parking.
3. KAP sani2c
For trail biking enthusiasts, there’s no better place to be this Easter holiday than Rocky Bay Resorts, which forms part of the much-anticipated KAP sani2c running from 26 to 29 April. This three-day, 265-kilometre mountain bike stage race starts at Sani Pass in the southern Drakensberg and heads towards the coast with the bikers riding the Rocky Bay Resorts Trails before finishing in Scottburgh. Outside of the race, guests at Rocky Bay Resorts can enjoy the seven trails winding through sugar cane and coastal forests, with the on-site Badgers Cycling and Sports Center available for any biking equipment and guidance.
4. Blue Flag beach (pilot status)
Rocky Bay Resorts is located just 150 metres away from Rocky Bay Beach, an exquisite beach which was recently appointed pilot Blue Flag beach status. This international certification ensures the highest quality standards are met in terms of accessibility, facilities and amenities, safety, cleanliness and responsibility towards the environment. This means families can enjoy a wonderful seaside holiday surfing, swimming, and snorkelling in the rock pools at Granny’s Pool at low tide.
5. Great diving
Another nearby site is the world-renowned Aliwal Shoal, a Marine Protected Area and one of the world’s top dive sites. Visitors can explore this incredible marine location in a number of ways, whether snorkelling, free diving, scuba diving or shark cage diving! Rocky Bay Resorts is the home of Mokarran Dive Charters, an internationally recognised PADI 5* Dive Centre offering various ocean adventures for all levels; as well as KZN Shark Cage Diving which offers close-up shark experience in its stainless-steel, SAMSA-approved shark cage.
6. Meal with a view
Another resident tourism establishment at Rocky Bay Resorts is the popular Dock 360 restaurant. Guests can enjoy great meals, holiday specials, or simply sundowners will overlooking the beautiful Indian Ocean.
7. Birding
From dedicated twitchers to casual bird watchers, Rocky Bay Resorts trails are a great place to view some of the incredible local birdlife. The milder autumn weather makes this the ideal time to head into the coastal forests with binoculars in hand, searching for the resident sea birds, migrant cuckoos, honeyguides, buff-spotted flufftails, the Narina trogon, and so much more.
8. Adventures in the sky
For something a little bit different, guests to Rocky Bay Resorts can enjoy an aerial view of the KZN South Coast with a microlight flip. Experienced pilot, Noel NcDonogh, from World of Wings Flight School takes guests on awe-inspiring flights across the coastline, weather permitting.
9. Fishing
Those wanting to make great memories of casting lines with the family should head to Rocky Bay Resorts for some of the region’s best fishing. Deep sea fishing for game fish can be done on one of the seven charter boats available, or from personal recreational vessels at the Park Rynie Skiboat Club. Spearfishing is also very popular, both offshore and inshore for those looking to catch couta, snoek, salmon and albacore.
