World’s Oldest Provincial Rugby Tournament Gets New Broadcast Sponsor KWV Showcases Pioneering Spirit With SuperSport Currie Cup Sponsorship Cape Town – 4th August, 2014 – KWV, home of the World’s Best Brandy and leading wine and spirits producer, today announced its broadcast sponsorship of the 2015 ABSA Currie Cup Rugby, one of the world’s oldest provincial rugby tournaments. Steeped in history and tradition, the ABSA Currie Cup dates back to 1889 and the tournament is regarded as the cornerstone of South Africa's rugby heritage.
The coveted gold trophy remains the most prestigious prize in South African domestic rugby. The ABSA Currie Cup tournament kicks off on the 7th of August, this years’ tournament is set to be filled with a number of surprises with heavy expectations on the 8 participating teams considering it is a World Cup year and the appearance of several Springbok Sevens squad members joining various teams. “Recently we launched our first ever brand trademark campaign, Finish Great and as an extension to this we decided it was time to take on a broadcast sponsorship to give understanding to what it means to finish great as well as to build context to our brand campaign,” De Bruyn Steenkamp, Global Sales & Marketing Director for KWV. He adds: “KWV is responsible for legendary wine brands such as Roodeberg and has a long tradition of crafting the finest brandies in the world, much like the ABSA Currie Cup competition, which is responsible for producing and showcasing some of our best local talent which ties in perfectly with our brands’ pioneering spirit.”
“Finish Great is about inspired achievement, about perseverance and about celebrating personal success, whether it is big or small, it is also the human story of how we can all overcome life’s challenges,” says Steenkamp. “The ABSA Currie Cup is all about finishing great, and there may be the victorious team that wins the final, but every game is packed with a number of Finish Great moments that we want to highlight and celebrate.” According to Steenkamp, KWV will also be launching a fully integrated digital campaign with in-store activity, which will provide perfect opportunities at different touch-points for rugby fans to show their ‘gees’.” “South African rugby supporters are devoted, many of who develop their love for a specific team from a very young age and with this campaign we are aiming to give these enthusiasts the opportunity to show their support and love of their teams as well as bring out their competitive spirit in other areas outside of a braai and in the stadium,” he explains.
“Rugby devotees will have the opportunity to showcase their love of their teams by changing KWV online banners with personalised messages for their chosen teams and the opportunity for teams to play-up against each other and their rival team supporters. As a reward they will get the opportunity to win fantastic prizes, including VIP ABSA Currie Cup hospitality and KWV Brandy.” “This is a first for the KWV brand and we are incredibly excited to be involved in such a prestigious South African event,” says Steenkamp. “This represents what we believe is a truly Finish Great moment for KWV.” For more information visit www.finishgreat.co.za, or join the conversation on Twitter: @KWVBrandy @KWVWines #FINISHGREAT Visit: http://www.finishgreat.co.za/curriecup to change your banner.
