Defending Champs Reclaim Titles at the 2024 Street Lines Skate Tournament

The 2024 Street Lines Skate Tournament took place over the weekend at the renowned Thrashers Skatepark in Pretoria, presented by LW Mag and Dragon Energy, in association with Converse, Garmin, Balwin Properties, and DJI. The fourth edition saw defending champions and 2024 Olympians, Boipelo Awuah (Kimberley) and Brandon Valjalo (Johannesburg), reclaim their titles in the Women's and Men's divisions, respectively.

Street Lines has grown into the biggest skateboarding contest in South Africa, featuring 70 skateboarders from across the country. Competitors battled for a share of the R60,000 prize purse and Garmin Instinct 2 Smartwatches. The event's level of competition continues to rise, as skaters push the boundaries of performance.

Women’s Division Highlights

Danielle Pan (Johannesburg) and Ashley Gindre (Johannesburg) made their presence felt as newcomers, impressing the judges in a close fight for second place. Ashley Gindre's run, featuring a Mellon Grab over the Box, a One Foot Nosegrab on the Quarterpipe, and a Boneless on the Bank, earned her 3rd place. Danielle Pan claimed 2nd place with tricks like the Mellon Grab 180 and a Boneless on the Bank.

Fresh off competing at the Paris Olympics, Boipelo Awuah dominated the field to win her fourth consecutive Street Lines title. Her impressive technical performance included tricks like a 50-50 on the Pyramid Rail, Frontboard on the A-Frame Rail, and a Noseslide on the Pyramid, securing her the top spot.

His tricks included a Lipslide down the Pyramid Rail and a Fakie Noseslide 270 out on the Floor Box.

Ethan Cairns (Cape Town), winner of the first Street Lines Skate Tournament in 2021, was a strong contender for the title. His solid runs included a Backside Lipslide on the Pyramid Rail, an Overcrook on the A-Frame, and a Backside 270 Boardslide, earning him 2nd place.

Returning from international competitions, Brandon Valjalo defended his Street Lines title with a high-intensity performance. His standout tricks included an Indie Shifty over the Box, Switch Tre-Flip on the Bank, and a Bigspin Boardslide on the big Rail, which earned him the 2024 Street Lines champion title.
