Victory For Lepront and Turrell At Sea Harvest Pipe Junior
Written by: Craig Jarvis Save to Instapaper
Pollock Beach, Gqeberha - In small but contestable conditions at Pipe, Louise Lepront and Clay Turrell emerged victorious in the U18 division of the Sea Harvest Pipe Junior surfing tournament on Friday.
In a decisive victory, Lepront beat Emily Jenkinson into second in the Girl's division, while Turrell took the win from Levi Epenetos in the Boys. Both finals were hard-fought in the small, running right-handers.
The natural-footer Jenkinson won the U16 Girls division from the goofy-footed Leah Lepront on her backhand, making two finals. Kai Stubbs took the U16 Boys division from Ben Esterhuyse, with both surfers throwing caution to the wind in their respective bids for victory.
Slayde Shooter was the victor in the ultra-competitive U14 Boys division, and he took the win from Sebastian Copson.
Thereafter, Maya Malherbe secured the win in the U14 Girls division in a very exciting final. All five girls were going tooth and nail in the final, and Malherbe found the winning wave while under priority and smashed it on her backhand for the win.
Ethan Schermbrucker took the U12 winners' trophy from Lazaro De Bryn with a strong and polished performance, underpinning the fact that there is a young, robust new crew coming through the ranks from Kommetjie that will be a significant threat in the future.
The SAST moves on to Port Alfred for the Rip Curl GromSearch presented by the Royal St Andrews Hotel. This takes place at East Beach from 18 - 20 April.
