Worcester-Born Gospel Artist Carlo Abrahams Inspires with Latest Single, “Still Standing”
Written by: Clayton Morar Save to Instapaper
South African gospel powerhouse Carlo Abrahams is making waves in the gospel music scene, sharing his transformative personal testimony through his latest single, “Still Standing.” This year, Carlo is releasing a reimagined version of the song, collaborating with both local and international producers to infuse fresh life into the uplifting anthem. Additionally, Carlo has exciting plans for an upcoming collection of Afrikaans gospel music set for release later this year.
Originally released in 2015, “Still Standing” was born from a deeply personal journey. Carlo wrote the song while facing immense hardship, including his father’s cancer diagnosis. Reflecting on the song’s impact, Carlo shares: “I never realised then how much this song would be my own lifeline through the challenges I would face. ‘Still Standing’ is my testimony—a story of God’s unyielding grace that has kept me strong in my lowest moments. I want others to feel the same hope.”
In 2024, Carlo has performed at major gospel events, including Gospel Friday at the Nekkies Festival and the popular show Koortjies with Elwira Standili, where “Still Standing” resonated with audiences. His journey even took him to the United States, where he joined the Covenant Keepers International Alliance and performed at the Holy Convocation alongside Grammy-winning gospel icons. “Standing alongside such legends, especially being part of the Covenant Keepers International Alliance Choir backing Grammy winner Kim Burrell, was surreal. Moments like these confirm that I’m on the right path,” he says.
Carlo hopes that “Still Standing” inspires listeners facing adversity. “I want people to feel the hope and resilience in ‘Still Standing,’” he explains. “No matter where you find yourself, remember that God is with you and will guide you.”
A Journey Anchored by Faith and Education
Beyond his musical achievements, Carlo is pursuing an MBA on scholarship at the Business School of the Netherlands. Reflecting on this, he expresses his gratitude: “Surely, God is great. This journey has been incredible and is a testament to the power of faith and perseverance.”
Fans can anticipate hearing the reimagined version of “Still Standing” soon, as Carlo continues to record with renowned producers. He is also excited to release new Afrikaans gospel music, expanding his faith-driven catalogue and sharing messages of resilience and trust with a wider audience.
