The Iron Man of the design world - Philippe Starck
Submitted by: Bronwyn
While Tony Stark become a much-loved pop culture figure in the ten years between Iron Man and Avengers: Endgame, Marvel’s character is restricted to on-screen accolades and a decade of fame. Parisian designer Philippe Starck, on the other hand, has been a famous figure in the world of design since the 80’s. Born to French aeronautical engineer and inventor André Starck, Philippe studied interior architecture and design at the École Nissim de Camondo in the city of his birth. He went on to found Starck Product in 1976, before working on the private rooms of Francois Mitterand at the Élysée Palace; a job which thrust him into the spotlight. His subsequent work on the Café Costes in Paris made him an international star.
Starck and AXOR
In 1994, Starck and AXOR went right ahead and revolutionised the sanitary-related design world for good with the Salon d’eau – widely regarded as the first ever bathroom-cross-living space. A ground breaking move at the time, this style is now regarded as a classic some 25 years later. Since then, Starck and AXOR have teamed up to produce AXOR Starck, AXOR Starck Organic, AXOR Starck V and the AXOR ShowerCollection.
The Man
Described as a ‘tireless free spirit’ Philippe Starck is proud of his unconventional style. He is a startling extrovert who enjoys playing with materials and norms to create something unique and unheard of. A great example of this is the AXOR Starck V; which uses translucent materials and a special design to mirror a whirlpool vortex as it exits the faucet. Starck envisions a better world for her, and this makes up the primary source of his drive for innovation. Representing the indefatigable power of design, Starck has tried his hand at loudspeakers, chandeliers, motorbikes, yachts and much more. He has dabbled in everyday objects and sensational interior designs. His hotel work has acquired cult-status across the world and his work is never out of demand; featured in museums and exhibitions around the globe.
An Unshakeable Partnership
AXOR and Starck continue to reach new heights and set new benchmarks for the world of design in the bathroom world, and don’t look to be slowing down any time soon. Here’s to the continued success of a partnership now spanning almost three decades!
AXOR. Form follows perfection.
