Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels Donates R200,000 to Four Gauteng SPCAs in Urgent Need

Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels has once again answered the call for help, donating a total of R200,000 to four struggling SPCA branches across Gauteng. The donation will provide immediate relief and much-needed upgrades to help the dedicated teams continue their vital work caring for abused, neglected and abandoned animals.

Every SPCA in South Africa is mandated by law to protect animals, yet none receive government funding. They rely entirely on public support to keep their doors open. When four Gauteng branches reached out in desperation, Good Morning Angels stepped in with R50,000 for each organisation.

SPCA Tshwane will use the funds to help upgrade kennels at its Waltloo and Centurion facilities, where cracked cement currently makes disease containment difficult. The branch also hopes to install infrared lights in the puppy kennels to keep animals warm during the harsh winter months, ideally powered by a solar system to ensure consistent heating despite power disruptions.

At Kempton Park SPCA, the donation will assist with urgent repairs to kennel infrastructure, including electrical wiring and damaged gates, while also helping provide food for the 80 to 100 animals currently in their care.

Springs SPCA cares not only for domestic pets but also farm animals such as donkeys, cattle, sheep and goats. The organisation takes in around 370 animals every month, amounting to more than 4,500 animals a year, and uses approximately 150 kilograms of animal food daily. The donation will help sustain these essential feeding costs.

Meanwhile, Midrand SPCA will use the funds to purchase tick and flea treatments, blankets, washing powder and fuel, while also supporting an important sterilisation campaign to help manage the local animal population responsibly.

“For me, donating towards the four SPCAs on behalf of Good Morning Angels is something I could do every single day of my life if I could,” says Martin Bester, host of Jacaranda FM’s Breakfast With Martin Bester. “It’s a cause very close to my heart. The people who work at SPCAs, the voices for the voiceless, are absolute angels. Our job is simply to empower them so they can continue being there for cats, dogs, donkeys, chickens, pigs and other animals that are neglected, abused or abandoned.”

Bester also called on the public and businesses to get involved in supporting animal welfare organisations in their communities.

“I want to encourage companies and individuals to support their local SPCA in whatever way they can. The least we can do is assist them. Let’s empower them, support them and help make their days a little easier so they can continue caring for the animals that need them most.”

The Good Morning Angels Fund, which has been changing lives for more than 20 years, continues to rally listeners and corporates to support those who need it most, including the animals who cannot speak for themselves.

Listeners can tune in to Good Morning Angels every Wednesday morning on Jacaranda FM’s Breakfast With Martin Bester.
