New South African Audio Drama Blood in the Dust Premieres

PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA — Baird Media is proud to announce the premiere of Blood in the Dust: The Wolwefontein Murder, the gripping first instalment in a new original audio drama podcast series written and performed by Hendrik Baird, with immersive sound design by Ethan Baird. The six-part noir thriller launches Thursday, 13 November 2025, and will be available at https://baird.media/blood-in-the-dust.
Set against the eerie stillness of the Karoo landscape, Blood in the Dust tells the story of Warrant Officer Gideon du Toit, a weary cop who responds to a seemingly routine farm murder; only to uncover layers of silence, betrayal, and buried intent. What begins as a case of armed robbery spirals into something far more unsettling, as clues surface not just from the dust, but from the past. A rifle in a septic tank. A silver tea bell. A safe no one knew existed.
“The Karoo doesn’t forget,” says writer-performer Hendrik Baird. “This story explores how violence echoes across generations, and how what we bury finds its way back to the surface.”
The series blends crime fiction, psychological introspection, and existential noir in a uniquely South African setting. Baird’s razor-sharp writing and emotionally raw performance are complemented by Ethan Baird’s atmospheric sound design, layering texture and tension into every scene. The result is a story as intimate as it is disturbing: a haunting meditation on truth, guilt, and the ghosts we feed.
The Wolwefontein Murder is the first of three planned seasons, each revealing a different facet of the same haunted world. Together, they form a tapestry of intersecting lives, unresolved crimes, and the reckoning that comes when silence is finally broken.
