Comedian Vafa Naraghi returning to Flamingo Casino, Saturday, 9 May 2026
Returning to Kimberley at Flamingo Casino, Vafa Naraghi’s Becoming South African traces his journey from growing up as a Persian boy in Mahikeng at the tail end of apartheid to becoming a multilingual performer who has lived and worked across South Africa. Through sharp wit and heartfelt storytelling, Vafa unpacks the absurdities, contradictions, and quiet beauty of a democracy still finding itself.
With humour that disarms and connects, the show explores themes of identity, culture, belonging and national pride—inviting audiences to laugh, reflect, and reimagine what it truly means to be South African.
A Rising Voice in South African Comedy
It was in Durban where Naraghi was first given stage time, launching what has become one of South Africa’s most exciting comedy careers. Today, he is a two-time Comics Choice Award winner and one of the country’s most distinctive comedic voices.
Known for his socially conscious humour, Naraghi brings a rare ability to connect across cultures, communities, and generations. Speaking six languages — including Setswana, isiXhosa, Afrikaans, and Farsi — and with more than 570 000 followers across social platforms, his viral skits capture the nuances of everyday South African life and have built him a devoted nationwide audience.
A Personal and Powerful Performance
Becoming South African is his most personal and powerful work to date — a one-man journey through identity, culture, and belonging in a country still defining itself. Drawing from his experience growing up in Mahikeng to Iranian parents at the tail end of apartheid, Naraghi weaves hilarious, heartfelt, and sometimes provocative stories about language, race, masculinity, and national pride — all delivered with his trademark authenticity.
"This isn’t just a comedy show — it’s a love letter to South Africa,” says Naraghi.
