Vivian Reddy Donation Launches Telethon To Support Merewent Cheshire Home

A major step towards sustainability and continued care has been taken as businessman and philanthropist Vivian Reddy donates R50,000 to officially launch the “10 Calls of Kindness” Telethon in support of Merewent Cheshire Home in Durban.

The contribution marks the beginning of a community-driven fundraising initiative aimed at securing the future of one of the region’s most essential care facilities for individuals living with severe physical disabilities.

Urgent Funding Needed To Sustain Critical Care

Merewent Cheshire Home provides residential care, dignity, and daily support to its residents, many of whom rely entirely on the facility for their wellbeing. However, the organisation is currently facing significant financial challenges that threaten its ability to continue operating at full capacity.

Among the most urgent needs is the replacement of a specially adapted transport vehicle, which is critical for residents’ mobility and access to medical services. The Home is also working to settle a substantial municipal bill while continuing to cover ongoing operational costs, including staffing, medical supplies, and essential day-to-day care.

Without immediate support, these pressures could directly impact the quality of life of residents who depend on the Home.

A Call For Community And Corporate Support

Leadership at Merewent Cheshire Home is calling on businesses, corporates, and individuals to step forward as “Champions of Kindness” and support the initiative.

Chairman Raven Naidoo emphasised the significance of the initial donation, stating that it represents more than financial support.

“The generous contribution by Vivian Reddy is more than a donation, it is a call to action. We urge corporates and individuals alike to come forward and support this cause. Together, we can ensure that our residents continue to live with dignity, care, and hope.”

Organisations and individuals are encouraged to contribute by sponsoring a disability-friendly vehicle, assisting with municipal arrears, or providing financial and in-kind support to ensure long-term sustainability.
