South Africa's comedy calendar highlight, the 26th annual JiVE Cape Town Funny Festival, returns to the Baxter Theatre from 2 to 29 June, 2025, promising a month-long celebration of local comedic prowess alongside international variety acts. Endorsed by the Mayor of Cape Town, Geordon Hill-Lewis, as a cornerstone of the city's winter entertainment, the festival underscores the enduring power of comedy and freedom of speech.
This year's line-up features a dynamic mix of South African comedy giants, including Savanna Comics' Choice Award winners Robby Collins and Kagiso Mokgadi, alongside fan favourites Alan Committie, Tumi Morake, Dalin Oliver, Emo and Loukmaan Adams, and The Big Boys. Adding an international flair, the festival welcomes Sweden’s Got Talent winner, magician Charlie Caper, and the acclaimed Cirque du Soleil clown sensation, Campagnia Baccala from Italy.
Festival founder Eddy Cassar emphasises the unique blend of local and international talent: "Our philosophy has evolved to champion the exceptional stand-up comedy flourishing in South Africa, complemented by world-class variety acts sourced globally. This creates a truly unique and entertaining experience for our audiences."
Beyond the laughs, the JiVE Funny Festival continues its commitment to nurturing new talent through the JiVE Funny Championships, offering a platform for emerging comedians. Furthermore, the festival proudly supports Operation Smile, raising crucial funds to provide life-changing cleft palate surgeries for children.
Niyaaz Hendricks of JiVE, the festival’s principal sponsor for the past 15 years, highlights the event's significance: "The Funny Festival has become an iconic winter highlight for Cape Town, bringing people together to share laughter and create lasting memories."
MC duties will be shared by the popular Dalin Oliver for the first two weeks, followed by the ever-energetic Alan Committie.
Tickets for the 26th JiVE Cape Town Funny Festival are available through Webtickets. Group discounts are also offered. For more information, visit www.funnyfestival.co.za.
