The event raises awareness about mental health and wellbeing
More than just running and cycling, the annual Sun City GM Kasi Ride on Sunday, 26 October 2025 was a day of fun, fitness and entertainment all for a good cause. It embodies Sun City's commitment to promoting health and wellness inclusively and making a difference in the communities in which it operates. The event's core purpose is to raise awareness about mental health, with an engaging programme featuring activations, guest speakers and entertainment.
Resort guests as well as members of the public, were invited to lace up their takkies, and get on their bicycles, for routes over 21km and 10km.
The route took participants from the resort to the rural townships of Mogwase, Mabele-a-podi and Ledig, whether running, walking or cycling. Sun City Resort and the neighbouring communities, provided participants with an opportunity to experience the beauty of the locale for themselves.
In the morning, a workout zone at Sun Park included muscle activation and stretching before ramping it up with aerobics and Zumba. Self defence moves were demonstrated, and King Of Squats tested those glutes.
A mental health awareness address was presented by Ms Grace Tsele, Acting Deputy Director-General, Department of Health in the Entertainment Court in the afternoon, followed by a performance by Mmabana. Sun City’s GM Brett Hoppé, along with two MECs: Galerekwe Tlhapi, Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation and Bitsa Lenkopane, Economic Development, Environment, Conservation & Tourism, along with Unathi Nkayi, conducted a prize giving. The winners were, in order of finish:
- 21km men cyclists: Jeffrey Khuduge, Thato Sekhute, Francois Cloete
- 21km women cyclists: Ester Masinga, Thandiwe Dzanibe, Nkoni Mochekgechekge
- 21km men runners: Gopolang Sefanyetso, Dickens Tshenobo, Ikalafeng Rapula
- 21km women runners: Kelebeletse Mosweu, Tlhalefo Kwate, Thato Mogosi
- 10km men runners: Lesley Chifumbi, Collen Mongake, Kalvin Mashoane
- 10km women runners: Kelebogile Muyanga, Danelle Duplooy, Rose Nameng
Then it was time to let loose and party, with Mingus Entertainment, LKG, Young Stunna, Zee Nxumalo and Focalistic.
“It was a phenomenal event,” said Hoppé. “Mental health awareness and care is critical, and Sun City is gratified to have started this initiative which has grown over the past four years. Registrations, though free, were capped at 4 000 and closed a month before the event date, a clear sign of the strong community support it continues to receive.”
