Hope in Every Bag, Power in Every Action - Red Cherry Foundation and TEARS Drive Change for Women and Girls
Written by: Keineloe KK Phakathi Red Cherry Foundation Save to InstapaperJohannesburg, South Africa 23 November 2025: 100% Women-Owned. 100% Committed. Red Cherry and TEARS Join Forces to End Gender-Based Violence. The Red Cherry Foundation proudly announces its partnership with the TEARS Foundation in support of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, observed from 25 November to 10 December 2025. This year’s UN Women theme “End digital violence against all women and girls” underscores the increasing urgency to protect women and children from online abuse, harassment, and technology-enabled harm.
The Red Cherry Foundation is built on the belief that active citizenship is the heartbeat of a thriving nation. The organisation empowers individuals and institutions to step forward, participate, and transform awareness into measurable social impact. Through creativity, collaboration, and education, the Foundation mobilises South Africans to build communities where safety, dignity, and justice are upheld for all.
The TEARS Foundation, founded in 2012 by GBV survivor Mara Glennie, is a respected women led organisation offering crisis intervention, counselling, advocacy, and tech-enabled support for survivors of rape, domestic violence, and child sexual abuse. Their work continues to shine as a beacon of hope to thousands nationwide.
As part of this collaboration, Red Cherry Foundation and Red Cherry Interactive staff will participate in the Hope Bag Packing Initiative on 26 November 2025, contributing to the preparation and distribution of 4,000 Hope Bags. These essential-care bags will be delivered to Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Units, shelters across Gauteng, and Thuthuzela Care Centre’s throughout the country.
To further support survivors, the Foundation invites staff, partners, and members of the public to donate adult T-shirts (new or gently used) and baby clothing. These items form a vital part of the Hope Bags and help restore dignity and comfort to survivors during moments of deep vulnerability.
“As the Red Cherry Foundation, we believe that real impact is born when compassion moves into action. Our partnership with TEARS reflects our unwavering commitment to stand with survivors, uplift communities, and help build a South Africa where every woman and girl feels safe both online and offline. This is more than a campaign; it is a call to our nation’s conscience.” Says Keineloe KK Phakathi, Business and Client executive, Red Cherry Foundation.
This collaboration reinforces the Foundation’s long-standing commitment to women’s empowerment, community upliftment, and building safer digital and physical spaces for all women and girls. Together with TEARS, the Red Cherry Foundation stands resolute in driving awareness, restoring hope, and advancing meaningful change across South Africa.
