SportXChampions Awards Launches as South Africa’s Premier New Celebration of Sporting Excellence

South Africa will soon witness the launch of the SportXChampions Awards, a new private-sector sports industry initiative that will become an annual showcase honouring the country’s top athletes and teams who, in 2025, secured national, continental, or international titles, as well as those who reached 100 caps or matches.
Taking place in Johannesburg on 19 March 2026, following the SportXSponsorship Forum and coinciding with the LIV Golf tournament, the SportXChampions Awards is more than a ceremony but a celebration of the “No DNA, Just RSA” mantra.
The Awards will feature fireside conversations with leading athletes and coaches, offering intimate insight into the resilience, preparation, and support systems behind their triumphs. These conversations will bring guests closer to the human side of performance, turning the event into a living archive of South African sporting brilliance.
The highlight of the event will be the presentation of the SportXChampions Awards, honouring athletes and teams demonstrating mastery, longevity, and exceptional national contribution. National federations will be contacted to confirm their respective national, continental, and international champions, teams, and athletes who have reached major milestones.
The event will also introduce the SportXPro Awards, recognising leading professional teams for winning national leagues and tournaments across football, rugby and cricket, respectively. National amateur champions will also be acknowledged through a formal mention, ensuring the celebration reflects excellence across the full sporting ecosystem.
According to organiser Gerrit Davids, MD of Gerom Media, Sports & Entertainment (Pty) Ltd, “The SportXChampions Awards is designed as an event where excellence steps into the spotlight, merging recognition with storytelling to celebrate achievement not as a headline but as a lasting legacy, and it stands as a national moment to recognise endurance, mastery, and the stories that shape South Africa’s sporting identity.”
Bringing together athletes, coaches, federations, the media and sponsors alike, the SportXChampions Awards is poised to become a defining annual moment honouring those who elevate South Africa on global stages.
