Sun City’s outdoor slot machines are a first in South Africa

Have a little poolside flutter while sipping a cocktail and soaking up the sun
When Sun City opened in 1979, the world was quite different to the way it is now. Leggy models in ostrich feather plumage were very much part of the glamour of the exciting new hotel and casino, known for sheer extravagance and entertainment. Times change, however, and not only did a grand dame need a bit of a cosmetic lift to maintain the razzle dazzle for which the resort is world famous, but Sun City stays abreast of the very latest in gaming technology with the introduction of the first counter-top slot and poker machines at its transformed pool area.
A grand central staircase now leads guests down to an entertainment pool level alive with energy. At its core: a dedicated DJ island, where curated soundscapes create a vibrant mood by day or night. From dancing under the stars to lounging poolside with signature cocktails—and now the chance to spin in the sun—the space is a celebration of both indulgence and freedom.
“With this visionary transformation, the Sun Terrace and pool emerges as a dynamic cultural and lifestyle destination. From serene breakfasts over newly unveiled vistas to vibrant evenings echoing with music and laughter, the new Sun City hotel leisure and dining offering sets a bold new benchmark for what a luxury African escape can be,” says Brett Hoppé, the Resort’s General Manager.
Swimming and sunbathing are still very much on the menu in this area, but MVG members and day card holders can now also spin the wheels on six new countertop machines right at the poolside bar, the first of their kind in South Africa. Each machine offers slots, poker and roulette games, allowing guests to stay close to the water while enjoying a little gaming.
The machines are the same as those found inside the casino, with multiple denominations for classic as well as slots, poker and roulette games. Friendly technicians are on site to assist guests with any questions.
For those who prefer indoor play or a break from the sun, the casino has also been updated in time for the December holiday season. Diamond and Platinum MVG cardholders can enjoy the exclusive Salon Privé, now featuring Dragon Link with the Hold and Spin feature, Free Games and Progressive Jackpots. Sun Privé Mystery can be won at any time, does not require any winning combination, and is available on all 80 Privé machines, Payouts start at R100 000 with a maximum value of R150 000 in cash.
The main casino floor has also been refreshed, with slot machines rearranged to improve flow and comfort for players. XTENSION LINK in Volume 3 has been introduced, bringing new Linked Progressives that accumulate with every play. Titles include Fruit Palace, Golden Chicago XL, Ocean Secrets, Savanna Heat, Thunder Reign and Tiki Crush, each offering features such as Expanding Reels, Golden Spins and an Xpress feature where Golden Spins can be triggered immediately. Guests who enjoy classic table games can also experience Sun City Live Roulette online through Sunbet, which streams real-time roulette tables directly from the casino floor and allows you to place your bets from wherever you are.
Guests can explore the updated floor and find a game that suits them at Sun City.
