Meridian Wine Merchants has been recognised as South Africa’s leading wine distributor in the On Consumption channel, according to the Wine Business Solutions (WBS) 2024 Wine On Premise Report.

WBS, an Australian-based company conducting wine business research across 15 countries, has rated Meridian Wine Merchants as the top distributor in their On Premise report for the third time. This recognition highlights Meridian’s unwavering commitment to service excellence in the On Consumption sector—a core strategic focus for growing wine producers’ market visibility and influence. Beyond securing listings, Meridian provides ongoing support, comprehensive wine and service training, as well as tailored brand placement and promotional opportunities.

Growth in Market Share and Strategic Partnerships

The WBS 2024 report reveals that Meridian has expanded its market leadership within South Africa’s hospitality sector, growing from a 22.5% to 23.7% share of all wine listings. “This success is thanks to our trusted partnerships with our customers and our expert understanding of what they need to deliver excellent service to their guests,” says Damian Ganes, National Sales Executive. “We ensure the right wines are listed in the right venues, aligning our producers’ brand strategies with consumer demands across restaurants, hotels, pubs, game lodges, and other key on-consumption settings nationwide. Expansion and Data Insights

WBS has expanded its data analysis from 40,000 to nearly 60,000 individual wine listings across 4,119 establishments. In response to the rising demand for premium and well-positioned brands, Meridian has expanded its portfolio from 39 to 46 premium wine brands.
