KWV, an award-winning, proudly South African brand, has been named as one of the World’s Top 50 Most Admired Wine Brands for the fourth successive year – the only South African wine brand to attain this global accolade. The prestigious Drinks International World’s 50 Most Admired Wine Brands annual awards is a globally recognised honour.
Over 200 of the world’s top masters of wine, sommeliers, educators and journalists took part in the admiration poll, which judges wine brands from across the world from all regions, styles and qualities against each other. The admiration poll votes were based on the following criteria – the wine should be of consistent or improving quality; it should reflect its region or country of origin; it should respond to the needs and tastes of its target audience; it should be well marketed and packaged and it should have strong appeal to a wide demographic.
“This is an outstanding achievement in our eyes,” says De Bruyn Steenkamp, Global Sales & Marketing Director for KWV. “Being ranked as one of Drinks International’s World’s Top 50 Most Admired Brands for the fourth consecutive year is a great achievement and really speaks to the journey the company has been on over the past 5 years.” He continues: “This has involved extensive business strategy and market positioning, and as such KWV has been recognised for producing some of the South Africa’s best wines and brandies and its attainment of globally recognised awards is testament to this.”
From 2011 to date, KWV boasts over 930 awards for its wines with 320 achieved in the past year alone. “Our new positioning of ‘Finish Great’ aims to transform the KWV brand by illustrating our proud pioneering heritage,” de Bruyn adds. “As the only South African brand to be featured on the list, we are happy to fly the flag and proudly represent our country’s historic and rich wine heritage.”
