African Marketers Shine at African Marketing Confederation Awards
Submitted by: Lunice JohnstonJohannesburg, 15 October 2024 – A dazzling showcase of talent was on display at the recent African Marketing Confederation (AMC) Awards dinner, held as part of the third annual African Marketing Confederation Conference in Mombasa, Kenya, from 25 to 27 September 2024. The conference provided the perfect setting to celebrate these prestigious awards.
Helen McIntee, President of the AMC, highlighted the difficulty faced by the judges due to the high quality of campaigns submitted. “The quality of campaigns shows just how much marketing talent we have in Africa. We are proud of all the teams behind these campaigns and those who earned the top honours.”
Key Winners
Best Cause-Related Campaign – White Cap Kenya
White Cap Kenya took home the gold for its Saving the White Caps project, which connected White Cap beer with Mount Kenya, a national treasure. The campaign showcased the importance of preserving the mountain, a vital source of Kenya’s water. This project also earned a bronze in the Brand of the Year category.
Best Social Media Campaign – TMI Technologies (Uganda)
TMI Technologies won gold for the MiOne Launch. The campaign promoted MiOne’s smartphones and smart devices, following the success of its feature phone sales. The launch contributed to expanding internet access in Uganda and won silver for both Most Effective Campaign and Brand of the Year.
Best Use of Local Insights – Johnnie Walker Kenya
Johnnie Walker Kenya won the Best Use of Local Insights award for its Bart AI campaign, which introduced an AI-powered mixologist to craft personalised cocktails. The campaign reached 3.8 million drinkers and also earned bronze for Brand of the Year.
Tourism and Destination Marketing Campaign – Zambian Tourism Agency
Zambian Tourism Agency won top honours for the Destination Zambia campaign, which promoted Zambia as a travel destination. The campaign helped increase international tourism arrivals, contributing significantly to Zambia's GDP growth through tourism.
Most Effective Campaign – Stanbic Bank Uganda
Stanbic Bank Uganda won the Most Effective Campaign award for its Stanbic National School Championship, which garnered extensive media coverage and successfully raised awareness of the championship's impact on learners. The bank also took home the Brand of the Year award.
Campaign of the Year – Guinness Kenya
The prestigious Campaign of the Year award went to Guinness Kenya for its Match Day campaign, which linked the Guinness brand with soccer to captivate the current generation of Kenyans. The campaign included a multi-channel project with social media competitions and exclusive lounge experiences. Guinness Kenya also earned bronze for Brand of the Year.
