‘Franschhoek Creates’ Returns This November - Celebrating Art, Culture & Community
Written by: Kimberley Taljaard Save to Instapaper
Franschhoek comes alive this November with Franschhoek Creates from the 1st to the 15th, a vibrant celebration of the region’s rich artistic heritage and contemporary creativity. This annual festival invites you to dive deeper into South Africa’s dynamic visual arts scene and immerse yourself in the valley’s cultural heartbeat.
Kicking off at Everard Read Franschhoek, the first week features the works of Tamlin Blake, whose innovative use of materials and pioneering beading techniques have influenced many South African artists. From November 15th onwards, Lucinda Mudge’s solo show will take centre stage at the same gallery.
The Gallery at Grande Provence hosts Summertime, an exhibition showcasing South Africa’s finest artists across a variety of media. Join the opening on November 3rd at 11 am for a welcoming glass of wine and a glimpse into the country’s dynamic art scene.
Just a short distance away on La Provence Road, Muse Gallery offers a captivating experience set against the stunning Franschhoek mountains, showcasing a vibrant mix of contemporary paintings, sculptures and digital art from South Africa’s leading and emerging artists. Visitors can enjoy a glass of bubbles or coffee while exploring the light-filled gallery and its serene garden displays.
La Motte Gallery enriches the festivities with a series of inspiring events, beginning on November 1st with botanical alchemist and organic farmer Anja Taschner’s talk, Growing Beauty Without Pesticides, which offers valuable insights into regenerative planting and sustainable gardening. The gallery is also hosting the Die Ateljee “Rose’d” art exhibition and on November 5th, world-renowned rose specialist Ludwig Taschner will give a special talk, guiding attendees through the history of the rose—from its ancient origins in the East to its cultivation across cultures and continents. Finally, on November 6th and 7th, join a hands-on Wildflower & Rose Floral Arranging workshop, creating breathtaking arrangements inspired by the natural world.
Adding a contemporary edge, the innovative works of Junald Sénéchal-Senekal take centre stage at Shop 10 in Franschhoek’s central Square. His signature Secret Silver Technique brings light and texture to life, creating a dynamic and deeply emotional experience. Exhibited alongside icons like Picasso and Warhol, Junald’s art transcends the visual—it’s truly felt, leaving a lasting impression with every encounter.
Franschhoek Creates 2025 weaves together these exhibitions talks and workshops into a rich tapestry of creativity and community spirit. Whether exploring intimate galleries or enjoying open-air displays, visitors will discover the passion and talent that define this extraordinary region.
