A Summer of Fire and Flavour at Olijvenkraal’s FYRE Dining, Paarl
Written by: Open Doors Collective Save to Instapaper
Tucked away in the heart of Paarl and framed by the dramatic Drakenstein Mountains, Olijvenkraal is a multi-faceted destination where working-farm charm meets fine living. Home to olive groves, vineyards and renowned for its authentic, experiential dining, the estate unites exceptional cuisine, handcrafted wines, adaptable event spaces and soon-to-launch luxury lodgings, creating a distinctive Cape Winelands destination. Aptly aligned with the festive season, guests can look forward to the unveiling of the estate’s onsite accommodation - an intimate escape designed to wow both local and international visitors ahead of its official 2026 launch, further enhancing the estate’s distinguished offerings.
At its heart lies FYRE Dining, the estate’s signature restaurant where South African flavours meet open-fire theatre. Here, the scent of wood smoke fills the air as braai masters craft dishes over glowing coals - a contemporary celebration of South Africa’s culinary heritage. Guests dine in a sleek black-steel restaurant space softened by refined, thoughtfully curated interiors, or opt for an alfresco setting where green lawns roll into panoramic vineyard views and peacocks wander freely.
This summer, FYRE introduces a refreshed seasonal menu that captures the spirit of South African braai culture while weaving in lighter, coastal flavours. Highlights include Cape Malay mussels, grilled chicken, seared tuna and signature “fyre bites” such as oepsies (honey-glazed bacon wrapped around glacé cherries), braaibroodjies with boerenkaas and peach chutney, and the legendary skilpadjies served on grilled cornbread. Larger plates showcase flame-kissed classics - prawns, baby chicken, and braaiplankies for two — accompanied by triple-cooked chips and pap en sous. Desserts range from malva pudding cheesecake to melktert ice cream, providing the perfect sweet finish.
Vegetarians and little diners are equally catered for, with comforting favourites like roasted boerpampoen with lentils or macaroni and cheese. To elevate the experience further, FYRE now offers a guided wine tasting featuring Olijvenkraal’s estate wines: the award-winning White Blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Viognier, the MCC Brut Rosé set to debut this December, as well as the versatile, food-friendly Shiraz and Shiraz Rosé—each expertly crafted to complement the seasonal menu and the perfect prelude to leisurely lunches or sunset dinners.
Adding to the allure, live music by talented local acts fills the estate every Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, creating an atmosphere where friends and families can unwind, sip and savour the rhythm of summer.
The team at FYRE Dining invites guests from near and far to savour authentic South African flavours, exceptional estate wines and the warmth of genuine hospitality - an experience that captures the true spirit of the Paarl at its most memorable.
