Hotel Verde’s Room-to-Give Initiative
Written by: Zubeida Abeahams Save to Instapaper
Hotel Verde Cape Town Airport is expanding its commitment to responsible tourism with the launch of “Room-to-Give”, a new initiative that turns hotel stays into direct support for local Western Cape organisations.
Through the initiative, R10 from every Room night booking will be donated equally, every quarter, to four carefully selected beneficiary organisations working within local communities.
For the first quarter of the initiative, a total of R41 850 will be distributed among the organisations.
The donation is absorbed entirely by Hotel Verde and does not add any additional cost to guest bookings.
However, guests are invited to follow suite and donate as well to help extend the initiative’s impact.
Additionally, guests can donate their earned Verdinos, the hotel’s in-house currency, obtained through participation in on-site sustainability actions.
Beneficiary Organisations
The initiative launches with support going to:
1) Childline SA – Western Cape
Childline Western Cape has been serving children, youth and families affected by abuse, crime and violence for more than two decades.
Originally operating as part of LifeLine/Childline Western Cape, the organisation became an independently registered non-profit organisation in 2018 and is affiliated with Childline South Africa.
Designated as a Child Protection Organisation by the Department of Social Development, Childline Western Cape provides prevention and early intervention programmes, therapeutic services, counselling and support to vulnerable children and families.
2) Cape Of Good Hope SPCA
Established in 1872, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA is the founding society of the SPCA movement in South Africa and the country's oldest animal welfare organisation.
Operating across more than 3,200 square kilometres, the organisation works to prevent cruelty to animals through animal rescue, veterinary care, sterilisation programmes, education and advocacy.
As a registered non-profit organisation, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA relies on public and corporate support to continue protecting vulnerable animals and promoting responsible animal welfare practices throughout the communities it serves.
3) POWA (People Opposing Women Abuse)
Founded in 1979, POWA is one of South Africa's leading women's rights organisations.
The organisation provides free counselling, shelter, legal services, skills development opportunities and public education programmes to support women affected by abuse.
Beyond direct services, POWA plays an active role in advocacy, policy reform, research and awareness campaigns aimed at advancing women's rights and improving the quality of life for women across South Africa.
4) Learn To Read Daycare Centre – Hermanus
Founded in 2020 through a collaboration between Kinderhilfe Hermanus e.V. and Seeds4Kids, Learn to Read Daycare Centre is an English-speaking, Christian-oriented early childhood development centre located in the Zwelihle community of Hermanus.
The centre provides quality early learning opportunities for approximately 70 children in a nurturing environment focused on education, self-confidence and strong values.
Its vision is to give underprivileged children the best possible foundation for future schooling and lifelong learning.
Hospitality With Community Impact
Hotel Verde is convinced that Good stays should do good too.
As a sustainable Hotel, we have a responsibility also for our community close to us.
The hospitality industry and one of the most important contributor for our Tourism can create a considerable impact to our community and especially those creatures and human less fortunate.
“This initiative is about creating a more direct link between hospitality and community impact,” says Mario Delicio, owner and director of Hotel Verde.
“Sustainability is not only about environmental responsibility. It is also about supporting people, organisations and communities in need, through meaningful, credible ways.”
Hotel Verde will report donation totals quarterly to ensure guests, partners and the wider community can clearly see how the initiative is contributing to local organisations over time.
The hotel says the initiative has been intentionally designed to remain simple and credible.
Guests do not need to opt in or pay more.
By booking an eligible stay, support is automatically generated through Hotel Verde’s own contribution model.
The initiative also supports Hotel Verde’s broader vision of creating tourism experiences that leave a positive local legacy while giving travellers more reason to choose direct bookings.
With Room-to-Give, the hotel hopes to encourage broader conversations around how tourism businesses can create more visible local benefits in the communities they operate within.
Book A Stay, Support A Cause
At its heart, Room-to-Give is about making generosity part of the guest.
By funding the initiative directly, Hotel Verde Cape Town Airport ensures that every eligible booking contributes to organisations that work tirelessly to support communities across the Western Cape.
It is a small contribution with the potential to create meaningful collective impact over time.
For those who would like to support the initiative beyond their stay, a dedicated donation button is available on the Hotel Verde website, making it easy for guests and the wider community to contribute directly to the beneficiary organisations supported through Room-to-Give.
