The Man Who Changed a Landscape - The Adrian Gardiner Story

New Book Chronicles the Inspirational Journey of the Visionary Who Rewilded South Africa’s Eastern Cape

Two hundred years ago, elephants roamed freely across South Africa’s Eastern Cape. By 1989, that same land had been left barren—stripped of its wildlife, its forests overgrazed, and its future uncertain. But where others saw desolation, Adrian Gardiner saw promise.

Now, best-selling author Dean Allen tells the remarkable story of the man who brought life back to the land in his new book, The Man Who Changed a Landscape: The Adrian Gardiner Story.

From humble beginnings to the establishment of Shamwari Game Reserve—one of Africa’s most iconic wildlife destinations—Adrian Gardiner's life is a testament to vision, courage, and relentless determination. His work not only restored a vital ecosystem, but also reshaped the future of wildlife tourism and conservation in Southern Africa.

This compelling biography charts Gardiner’s path from doubt to triumph. In just three years, what was once dismissed as a “crazy” idea became a globally acclaimed reserve, welcoming back elephants, rhinos, lions, and leopards. But Adrian’s impact extends beyond wildlife: he helped change the mindset of a region, proving that sustainability and business can thrive together.

As he enters his eighth decade, Adrian Gardiner continues to inspire. This book is more than a biography—it’s a story of hope, transformation, and the belief that one person truly can change the world.
