FUCHS LUBRICANTS SOUTH AFRICA Achieves GBCSA Net Zero Carbon Level 2 Certification

As businesses face increasing pressure to reduce their environmental impact, FUCHS LUBRICANTS SOUTH AFRICA is demonstrating what sustainable industrial development can look like in practice. The company's headquarters in Isando has been rated Net Zero Carbon Level 2 certification by the Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA), placing it among a select group of buildings recognised for their commitment to low-carbon operations and sustainable design.

The achievement was recently commemorated through a plaque handover ceremony, recognising FUCHS' ongoing efforts to reduce emissions while creating a high-performance workplace aligned with its long-term sustainability ambitions.

Developed as part of the FUCHS Net-Zero Carbon Strategy, the headquarters was designed to maximise energy efficiency while enhancing employee comfort and wellbeing. Key sustainability features include high-performance double glazing, passive design principles that reduce reliance on mechanical cooling, intelligent fresh-air ventilation systems, comprehensive energy monitoring and a 100% electrification approach that creates opportunity for renewable energy use through our solar PV system.

Together, these measures help reduce the building's carbon footprint while supporting more efficient and resilient operations.

The certification was achieved with support from sustainability consultancy Solid Green Consulting, which served as the Accredited Professional on the project, and Brundtland Consulting, which provided carbon credit specialist expertise.

According to Esther Seabi, Sustainability Director at FUCHS LUBRICANTS SOUTH AFRICA, the recognition reflects the company's long-term commitment to responsible business practices. "This certification demonstrates how sustainability can be integrated into everyday business operations and infrastructure decisions. As a company, we continue to pursue practical solutions that reduce environmental impact while supporting operational excellence and long-term resilience."

The GBCSA Net Zero Carbon certification recognises projects that achieve highly energy-efficient operations while balancing or eliminating carbon emissions associated with building performance. Level 2 certification extends beyond base building emissions to include occupant operational energy use, reflecting a broader and more comprehensive sustainability approach.

Managing Director Paul Deppe said the recognition aligns with the wider sustainability objectives of both the local business and the global FUCHS Group. "Sustainability is becoming increasingly important across every sector we serve. This certification demonstrates that meaningful progress is possible when environmental considerations are integrated into strategic planning from the outset. It is an achievement that reflects the commitment of our teams and partners, while supporting our broader journey towards a lower-carbon future."

The headquarters forms part of FUCHS LUBRICANTS SOUTH AFRICA’s broader sustainability roadmap, which includes ongoing investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency and emissions reduction initiatives across its operations.
