South African National Rowing Championships Set to Ignite Roodeplaat Dam

All eyes turn to Roodeplaat Dam this April as South Africa’s top rowing talent competes for national glory at the 2025 South African National Rowing Championships.
From aspiring school crews to elite athletes at the peak of their careers, rowers representing clubs, provinces, and institutions from across the country will take to the water from Saturday, 26 April to Sunday, 27 April. Hosted by Rowing South Africa, the championships are a prestigious highlight of the national rowing calendar—where titles are earned, reputations made, and the spirit of competition shines.
This year’s event promises a thrilling weekend of racing, showcasing the best of South African rowing talent across all levels. Spectators can expect intense battles for the podium and unforgettable performances from the country’s most dedicated athletes
Adding to the excitement, the RMB National Squad—South Africa’s elite rowing team—will be competing in several key events across the weekend. The squad features a powerhouse lineup of talent, including Olympians Paige Badenhorst and Christopher Baxter, fresh from their appearances at Paris 2024, alongside other top-tier rowers. Their presence is sure to elevate the competition and inspire the next generation of South African rowers.
Tiago Loureiro, Head Coach of Rowing South Africa, shared his anticipation: “Roodeplaat has always been a place of inspiration and resilience for our athletes. The National Championships are more than a competition—they’re a celebration of the hard work, passion, and unity that define South African rowing. With the RMB National Squad in peak form, we’re looking forward to some world-class performances and an unforgettable weekend.”
Spectators are encouraged to come out and support the athletes, enjoy the regatta atmosphere within the beautiful Roodeplaat nature reserve, and witness the extraordinary dedication that powers this sport. A R50 entry ticket is required, and food vendors, live commentary, and family-friendly zones will be available throughout the weekend.
