Sapphire Coast Tourism and the Amanzimtoti Athletics Club are proud to announce that the Sapphire Coast Marathon has officially been recognised as a KZN Athletics 42.2km Championship. Taking place in Amanzimtoti on Sunday, 26 October, the event – which is also a Comrades and Two Oceans Marathon qualifier - welcomes four experienced pacers who will guide runners on the day.
This year’s marathon also introduces live streaming in partnership with Sapphire Coast Media, giving family, friends, and supporters the chance to experience the excitement of race day in real time. With four live cameras providing full finish-line coverage, cutaways to waterpoints, interviews, and prize-giving highlights, the broadcast will capture the energy of the day like never before.
“We’re incredibly proud of how this event continues to grow,” said Dore Uys of Amanzimtoti Athletics Club. “The addition of the KZNA Championship and live streaming elevates the Sapphire Coast Marathon to a new level, while our dedicated pacers and community partnerships make it a truly inclusive and memorable experience for every runner.”
Meet the Sapphire Coast Marathon Pacers
The 2025 Sapphire Coast Marathon welcomes a group of passionate and experienced pacers who are committed to helping runners reach their goals, whether it’s chasing a personal best, securing a qualifier, or simply finishing strong.
1. 10km Race Pacer: Umar Randeree (Sub 1 Hour)
A dedicated runner and Team Vitality pacer for two years, Umar brings energy and enthusiasm to his 10km bus. Having recently spent eight months training in Kenya, he’s ready to help runners hit that sub-60-minute mark while keeping the atmosphere light and fun.
2. 21.1km Race Pacer: Njabulo Zuma (2h20 Bus)
Njabulo, also part of Team Vitality’s pacing crew, is known for his consistency and motivational spirit. His 2-hour-20 bus is perfect for runners chasing a steady half-marathon finish in a supportive environment.
3. 42.2km Race Pacer: Simphiwe ‘Mshishi’ Mngwengwe (3h40 Bus)
An accomplished marathoner and ultra-distance athlete, Simphiwe has an impressive pacing record across South Africa’s major races. His sub-3:40 bus is aimed at serious runners chasing qualifying times with precision and encouragement.
4. 42.2km Race Pacer: Sbo Zindela (4h20 Bus)
A long-time Amanzimtoti Athletics Club pacer, Sbo has previously led successful buses at the Sapphire Coast Marathon and Galleria Mall Challenge. His friendly, reliable style ensures every runner feels supported right to the finish.
Romy Wenzel of Sapphire Coast Tourism said runners will also enjoy the stunning Sapphire Coast Tourism murals along the route, which have been painted by local artist Christine Andrews.
“The Sapphire Coast Marathon showcases not only athletic excellence but also the incredible spirit of our local community. From pacers and volunteers to sponsors and supporters, this event reflects what makes the Sapphire Coast so special.”
