Heinz Mueller's remarkable display of resilience and optimism illuminated the 10km distance at the Red Feather Charity Run held this past weekend at Sunridge Village in Gqeberha. Amongst the gathering of over 700 athletes participating in the 5KM and 10KM road run, Mueller's triumph over adversity stood as a beacon of inspiration, igniting hope in all who witnessed his unwavering determination.

 Heinz Mueller, an esteemed eXp Realty agent residing in George, Western Cape, showcased extraordinary determination and resilience as he completed the challenging 10km Red Feather Charity Run in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. Despite facing the unique challenges posed by a prosthetic leg, Heinz's unwavering spirit and commitment to philanthropy shone brightly throughout the event.

For Heinz, the charity run served as a significant milestone in his journey towards achieving his 2024 running goals. "I started running before the COVID-19 pandemic, I was doing marathons. Road running is my forte, I love road running. Road running is a lot easier for me to consistently maintain over a long period than trail running," he explained. Heinz's dedication to running is evident in his impressive track record, having completed 176 5km Park Runs since 2014.

Beyond his remarkable athletic achievements, Heinz's story is one of resilience and triumph over adversity. In 1982, a tragic motorcycle accident left him with a prosthetic lower leg, altering the course of his life forever. Despite facing immense physical and emotional challenges, Heinz refused to let his disability define him. "I vowed that my physical disability would not affect the way I live life. And it hasn't!" he affirmed.

Heinz's journey towards reclaiming his active lifestyle was marked by perseverance and a relentless pursuit of his passions. "After nearly 25 years of using various prosthetic legs and feet, I got my first running blade in 2007. That changed my whole life, as a new world of opportunities opened," he shared. His foray into running not only reignited his love for sports but also became a source of inspiration for others facing similar challenges.

Chief Executive Officer of Community Chest of the Eastern Cape, Selwyn Willis, was proud to host the event for the first time, “I always wanted to have my own little Comrades Marathon. My sister company in Durban benefits from the Comrades, and I wanted to emulate something similar here in Gqeberha.”

He continues, “I didn’t know what to expect at our inaugural event and to see so many people entered the event is just so mind blowing. My vision for this event is for it to be one of the Eastern Cape’s marquee running events, and wanting to add a 21km distance in the future. We are really looking to add value to the community of Sunridge and our local athletes. We want this to be a big family event and community builder.”
