HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA - August 2022: THE WINNERS of SA’s new Global Team Horse Racing series (GTH) will be crowned after eight more action-packed races in front of Durban locals and horse racing fans on Friday, September 2, 2022.

The Cape Stingers and KwaZulu Royals progressed to the final having scored the most points after a dramatic third night in the series on Friday, August 19.

Team-based and fun for families, the live thoroughbred horse racing series has attracted new racing fans and local families to the series’ venue already.

Live races have been held every Friday evening throughout August.

Angus Campbell, GTH Marketing Director, said: “We are thrilled with the outcome so far. A big part of bringing GTH to South Africa was to grow the sport by shifting the focus from betting to fun, fast-paced family entertainment.”

“The jockeys and horses have put on an incredible show so far. The team managers and jockeys have shown how incredibly competitive they are in wanting to win each race for their teams.”

In the last of the series’ round robin events, jockey Jeffrey Syster rode Tom Bombadil to victory, securing 46 crucial points for the KwaZulu Royals. By the end of the evening, the KwaZulu Royals secured the top of the leaderboard, winning both their round robin events.

Also on night three, GTH presented the KwaZulu Royals jockey Raymond Danielson with the R5000 Night Rider award for accruing the most points during races on the night.

Muzi Yeni, who was suspended for the third race meeting, has emphatically confirmed that he will be back to lead the Royals in the final and has every intention of getting back to the top of the Night Rider leaderboard.

Campbell concludes. “The Cape Stingers and KwaZulu Royals are sure to put on another scorching performance at the final. We look forward to hosting our new fans and their families on race night.”

Racing fans can catch a live broadcast of the series final on SuperSport on DStv’s Variety 4 (channel 209) and on the GTH streaming platforms.
