King of the Whip Set for the Ultimate Showdown in 2024

Montecasino – Following two successful and sold-out events at Montecasino, South Africa's premier Freestyle Motocross contest returns for another thrilling event this November. Witness South Africa's best take on the world's best Motocross and Freestyle Motocross riders as they battle it out in the King of the Whip – Best Whip and FMX Best Trick contests on 23 November 2024 at Montecasino.

The adrenaline-fuelled Action Sports event is presented by LW Mag in association with Ford, Monster Energy, Yamaha, Garmin, Motul, GoPro, Estrella Cerveza, and PlayTSOGO.

Doors open at 2 p.m., and fans can meet their favourite riders during the Pit Walk, which runs until 3:30 p.m. The event kicks off at 4 p.m. and continues into the evening with the final showdown under the night skies and pyrotechnic displays.

Riders and Competitions

Riders scoring enough points in the Best Whip qualifying rounds will advance to the semi-finals and finals. Judges will evaluate style, amplitude, and variation to allocate scores. The FMX Best Trick contests will take place before the Best Whip finals, featuring both right-side-up and upside-down trick categories. Competitors will battle for a share of the R250,000 cash prize and various partner-sponsored prizes.

Four-time X-Games medallist Julien Vanstippen (Belgium) returns to defend his title, aiming for a three-peat. South African Freestyle Motocross star Dallan Goldman will look to maintain his streak of podium finishes at every King of the Whip event. Local Motocross star Jesse Wright is also a strong contender for the win. The list of local and international riders will be announced soon, allowing fans to bet on their favourites.

Monster Energy’s internationally endorsed DJ MA1A will take over the decks, creating an electrifying atmosphere. Renowned FMX event host Steve Sommerfeld will return as MC, keeping fans informed and entertained throughout the event.

What Is a Whip?

Whip (noun): A manoeuvre performed during motocross or freestyle motocross contests where the rider brings the rear of the motorcycle abruptly to either side while airborne. In extreme cases, the rear of the motorcycle may become perpendicular to the direction of travel, and the bike may be laid flat. The whip is often used to show off, adjust the bike's flight path, or reduce speed over jumps.
