Issue One of Surfing In South Africa Out Now
Written by: Craig Jarvis Save to Instapaper
The debut issue of Surfing In South Africa, a new interactive digital magazine, is now live.
This monthly publication offers a fresh perspective on everything happening within the Surfing South Africa ecosystem. Officially endorsed by Surfing South Africa, the sport’s national governing body, the magazine aims to inform, connect, and celebrate the country’s vibrant surfing community.
The first edition includes comprehensive coverage of several key SSA events:
- The Tiger’s Milk Winter Classic at Muizenberg
- Rip Curl GromSearch Durban
- The O’Neill SMTH Shapes Rookie Rippers
- The Ilembe Outreach Surfing Initiative in Ballito.
But Wait, There's More!
In addition to contest coverage, the issue features an interview with rising star Loghann Tilsley, a quick spot check at a break in Jeffreys Bay, a review of Miles Masterson’s new book The Oom, and a featured job opportunity in surf media, as well as some really lekker photos from our man in Durban, David 'Launchie' Lindemann.
Surfing In South Africa brings together national and grassroots coverage — from interschool events to national championships, from rookie groms to seasoned professionals. The vision is to develop a rich, inclusive archive of South African surf stories, events, and personalities.
Major imagery in the first issue is from Dave Lindemann Photography, Kevin Romm and Kody McGregor.
This first issue is just the beginning. The magazine will continue to grow and evolve with each edition, aiming to reflect and support the full spectrum of surfing in South Africa.
