Written by: The Platinum Club Save to Instapaper
The wait is over. The Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Elite16, hits Cape Town this week, transforming the stunning sands of Camps Bay Beach into a world-class arena. From Wednesday, October 22, to Sunday, October 26, 2025, 96 elite athletes from 48 countries will compete for glory against the iconic backdrop of Table Mountain.
This prestigious tournament is more than just a sporting fixture; it is a five-day festival blending competitive action, Cape Town's vibrant lifestyle, and beachside entertainment. Here’s what spectators can expect during the tournament:
World-Class Volleyball Action
The Cape Town stop is one of the highest tiers on the global tour, the Elite16. This means spectators will witness the very best men’s and women’s teams in the world, many of whom have represented their countries on the Olympic stage.
What to Expect: Non-stop, electrifying rallies, massive blocks, and gravity-defying defensive dives on the custom-built beach courts. The level of athleticism is unmatched, offering fans a rare chance to see global champions compete live on African soil.
The Schedule: The tournament follows a standard format, beginning with pool play on Wednesday and Thursday. The tempo rises significantly for the knockout rounds on Saturday, 25 October, culminating in the Semi-Finals and Finals on Sunday, 26 October. Plan to be there late Sunday afternoon for the medal matches!
Camps Bay Transforms Into The Ultimate Volleyball Playground
Camps Bay has been hailed as one of the most spectacular venues on the entire world tour. Organisers have transformed the public beach into a state-of-the-art stadium, but the famous Cape Town atmosphere remains.
Fans can catch all the volleyball action on a central stadium court and auxiliary courts throughout the tournament. However, there will be so much more to see and do at the Fan Zone. The Fan Zone will host delicious food stalls featuring local and international cuisine, pop-up drink options, and beachside entertainment, including live music and DJs to keep the energy high between matches.
With the Twelve Apostles mountain range rising above the arena, attendees are guaranteed one of the most Instagrammable sporting experiences anywhere in the world.
“It’s poetic to bring this beautiful event back to Cape Town, Camps Bay, the very beach where I spent so many years perfecting my craft,” says Leo Williams, tournament organiser and former South African volleyball star. “We couldn’t ask for a better setting to showcase the sport, and this week promises to be an unforgettable celebration of competition, community, and fun. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or completely new to volleyball, come down, grab a drink, and enjoy the action, you’re guaranteed to have an incredible time.”
“Telkom is proud to be part of an event that embodies connection, excellence, and unity,” says Gugu Mthembu, Chief Marketing Officer at Telkom. “At Telkom, we believe in creating possibilities, connecting South Africans to experiences that inspire, empower, and open new opportunities. The Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour in Camps Bay perfectly captures this vision, blending sport, technology, and community in a way that aligns with our purpose.
