Section 1 Champions Crowned in Thrilling Kaapse Klopse Showdown

Athlone Stadium was alive with excitement as over 15,000 Capetonians gathered for the Hollywoodbets KKKA Annual Kaapse Klopse Competitions Section 1 Final this past weekend. In a fiercely contested event, the West London All Stars emerged as Section 1 champions, claiming the coveted title in front of a sold-out crowd.
A Spectacular Display of Talent
After weeks of entertaining audiences, seven Section 1 troupes delivered their final performances, competing in categories like Juvenile Combined Chorus, Adult Coon Song, Best Band, and Group Song. The competing troupes included:
- West London All Stars
- Baruch Entertainers
- Playaz Inc
- Posh Vibrant
- Wesbank Youth Entertainers
- TV Stars
- Phantoms Community Development
Ultimately, the West London All Stars claimed victory, with Baruch Entertainers and Playaz Inc taking second and third places, respectively.
Celebrating a Hard-Fought Victory
Muneeb Gambeno, Director of KKKA, shared his pride in the event:“Saturday was the culmination of months of hard work, coupled with weeks of consistent world-class performances by all the Klopse troupes in Section One. Our congratulations to all the participants who ended this year’s competition series in front of a sold-out Athlone Stadium.”
Riyaad Peters, Operations Director at KKKA, commended all the participants:“This year’s competition blew all the previous years out of the water! Baruch Entertainers returned this year, much to the delight of their fan base, and all troupes brought their A-game every week. Well done to all the teams and troupe owners for putting on such stellar performances.”

Looking Ahead: Section 2 Final
While Section 1 has crowned its champions, the excitement continues this coming Saturday, 1 February, as Section 2 troupes take to the stage for their final showdown. Competing troupes include:
- Juvie Boy Entertainers
- Philadelphians Sporting Club and Youth Development
- Cape Town Hawkers
- Ashwin Willemse Orient Community Development
- Original District Six Hanover Minstrels
- Fabulous Woodstock Starlites
- Manenberg Superstars
The grand finale will also see the announcement of the overall championship winner and this year’s official Carnival Kings.

Tickets for Week 5 of the Hollywoodbets KKKA Kaapse Klopse Competition start at just R30 each. These can be purchased from Computicket or at Shoprite, Checkers, and U-Save stores. Please note that no tickets will be sold at the stadium, so purchase early to avoid disappointment.
