Laser marking in the aviation industry

Published: 21 April 2017

The Trotec SpeedMarker 300 marking laser is able to mark plastic casings for electronic assemblies, among other things, for long-lasting traceability in the aviation industry.

The range of services includes innovative products in the field of banking automation & medical technology, technical development and production, as well as assembly (e.g tool building), in the field of industrial electronics.

One current project using a Trotec SpeedMarker 300 fiber laser, involves the production of complete electronic assemblies for the aviation industry.

The fiber laser is used specifically to mark plastic casings made of polyester PET with a serial number as well as a 2D data matrix code. The consecutive serial number is generated directly in the SpeedMark laser software. With the help of a separate mounting template, 6 casings can be laser-marked with data per laser process.

The laser marked casing made of polyester PET is used for long-lasting traceability found on various electronic assemblies in aircraft engines for the aviation industry.Laser marking allows permanent traceability on industrial components.

Guaranteed traceability through permanent laser marking

In many industrial sectors, such as the electronics industry, in mechanical engineering and in medical technology, an identification marking of the components used is required by law. Serial numbers or data matrix codes can be precisely and permanently applied to components using laser marking.

Where even the smallest components, as well as details in areas that very difficult to reach, can be marked using our trotec Galvo laser systems.

Trotec presents "SpeedMark Vision – Smart Adjust": a camera aided positioning tool for all SpeedMarker Marking Laser Systems

Published: 30 March 2017

"SpeedMark Vision – Smark Adjust" enables the laser user to precisely position and laser all kinds of markings with camera visualisation.

Camera assisted positioning of markings

All laser systems of SpeedMarker family from Trotec are equipped with the laser software SpeedMark. This software offers many functionalities such as generating alphanumerical codes or serial numbers, integration of ERP systems, predefined laser parameters, graphical programming etc.

With the release of version 3.6 the Smart Adjust function is available from now on: The user can precisely position markings with a live camera image on even smallest work pieces. Adjustment time is reduced to a minimum (no "trial & error" process) which leads to a higher productivity and more efficiency. Positioning at a new level SpeedMark Vision – Smart Adjust is very easy to use. The HD camera shows a live image of the marking area within the user surface of SpeedMark.

Therefor the user can easily position the text with "drag & drop" directly on the work piece. With zoom function you can visualize every nut, bolt and screw, so you can position the marking precisely on smallest parts. Either radial text or other geometrical shapes – all markings are possible. With Smart Adjust the user can see a live preview on the screen which helps to place the marking correctly and monitor it, and the first marking will fit without any waste.

Fast and economic marking

You can lasermark exactly there where it is needed. Operating and positioning the laser is very simple and intuitive. Efforts for positioning can be reduced to a minimum. Additionally there is less waste as there is no more "trial & error" process. These benefits lead to a higher productivity and more profitability. There are several camera resolutions available for SpeedMark Vision – Smart Adjust.

Depending on the size of the marking area and on the needed resolution, there are three camera lenses for disposal: standard lense with 12mm, lense for highest precision with 25mm and lense for large marking areas with 8.5mm.Customers who have already laser systems of the SpeedMarker familiy have the possibility to upgrade their laser machine with the camera assisted positioning tool SpeedMark Vision – Smart Adjust."Print&Cut" application for printing industry SpeedMark Vision also suits for applications in the printing industry.

With reg. mark detection the laser can identify the position and rotation of the printed materials on the cutting area. The software identifies distortions and adapts the cutting lines to the printed graphics, so that there is no manual adjustment necessary.Further highlights of the new software version SpeedMark 3.6 From now on SpeedMark 3.6 is available for all laser machines of the SpeedMarker series.

With this new version Trotec succeeded to implement numerous useful features and to improve the usability of the laser machines.Besides the camera assisted positioning tool the software is characterised with an adapted and improved user surface.

Further lines can be lasered in all thicknesses and radial text can be mirrored. Even a lense exchange function (more system profiles) is available, and full vector files from PDF or graphic files can be imported.
