South African Breastmilk Reserve and Limpopo MEC of Health launches groundbreaking breastfeeding room

Published: 26 July 2018

The Limpopo MEC of Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, and the South African Breastmilk Reserve (SABR), in partnership with sponsor Sostieni and the South African Civil Society for Women’s Adolescent’s and Children’s health, will launch the Limpopo Department of Health’s newly revamped staff breastfeeding and expressing room at the Department of Health Offices in Limpopo on Wednesday 01 August 2018.

The upgrades and equipment were sponsored by the SABR and Sostieni, in celebration of World Breast Feeding Week (01-07 August) and in support of the mandate that aids breastfeeding mothers at work. It is hoped that this room will set a precedent and an example of how to support breastfeeding women in the work place. Employers play an integral part in supporting working breastfeeding mothers by providing time and a dedicated space for breastfeeding and expressing at work. This in turn improves the long term quality of life for both mothers and children.Members of the media are invited to attend the launch in support of all breastfeeding mothers and babies in South Africa.

The Best Breast Pump around

Published: 17 January 2018

By far the best breast pump around is the manual Silicone Breast Pump from Babyland.

I can vouch for this one personally. If you have ever used an electric breast pump you will be well aware of the time consuming process it can be, not to mention the cost involved.

The manual breast pump from Babyland is easy to use. Expel the air from the bottom of the chamber by squeezing it and then place it over the nipple area. A natural vacuum will be created and you will NOT need to sit there pumping as the milk should start to flow on its own.

The pump can be used whilst you breast feed your baby, collecting surplus milk on the other side. It is discreet enough that it can be tucked into your shirt for use at work. I have even used mine when driving home after work. Finally a great use of the time sitting in traffic!

Babyland has bought this product to the market at a competitive price. You need not throw away thousands of rands on a pump that may only be used for a couple of months. The manual breast pump is also so easy to clean, simply pop into the dishwasher and sterilize.

Complete with a lid, the Babyland breast pump can be purchased online for R280 from www.babyland.co.za
