South African Immigration changes are coming in 2020
Written by: Leon Save to InstapaperSouth Africa will have an overhaul of the current Immigration Laws, according to Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, Minister of Home Affairs. Apart from these changes, there will be a new service provider assisting Home Affairs with the front office systems from the end of 2020.
The likely change are outlined in the various policy documents issued by Home Affairs in the last 2-3 years and these involve:
- Streamlining the visa types and application processes for skilled workers required by the economy;
- Offering Permanent Residence to those who will add value in the long-term;
- Citizenship waiting periods may stay the same (five years after permanent residence) or be increased to ten years, in a move to manage the high number of foreigners who are eligible for permanent residence through the formal visas system, as well as through the refugee system;
- Other strategic issues and changes which may be raised by Cabinet, Parliament and affected parties.
To assist with preparing for these changes, Global Migration group is offering SA Immigration Training sessions. These are available in classes and online, as required.
