In the late hours of Saturday, 02 December 2023, a Fidelity ADT successfully apprehended a suspect in Witbank CBD.
At approximately 23:58, Fidelity ADT Reaction Officer Mkhwanazi received an alarm activation on Hofmeyer Street and promptly responded.
On arrival he proceeded to inspect the property and noticed an individual fleeing from the back of the building.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Reaction Officer Mkhwanazi called for backup and began pursuing the suspect, who had jumped the wall to the neighbouring site. Backup Reaction Officer Ntshangase arrived to assist in the search for the suspect.
The suspect, in an attempt to evade capture, jumped back onto the customers property and hid between a precast wall and the trees. Fortunately, the combined efforts of Officers Mkhwanazi and Ntshangase led to the discovery and apprehension of the suspect.
Upon further investigation, it was found that the suspect had broken the glass window of the church and removed two chairs. The suspect was handed over to Witbank SAPS.
Charnel Hattingh,Group Head of Marketing & Communications for Fidelity ADT, commended the officers for their swift action and dedication to duty. “Tightening up small vulnerabilities can amount to a huge relief when it comes personal security. Remain vigilant and do not leave anything to chance.” concludes Hattingh.
