On (27 May) Fidelity ADT reported that they had stopped copper thieves mid- robbery in Contantia Park. The response vehicle had clearly scared off the suspects who fled leaving the stolen cables next to the road. The Officers searched the area but the suspects could not be found.
In the early hours of this morning 8 June at approximately 04:00, Fidelity ADT officers were patrolling the area and noticed an open underground Telkom lid. Approaching carefully the officers stopped to investigate the scene. They heard noises coming from inside the hole. Calling for backup, they instructed the suspects to remain inside, and once the backup officers arrived, the suspects were apprehended.
Suspects were handed over to Garsfontein SAPS.
Leon Muller, regional manager for Fidelity ADT, says I commend our officers for their vigilance and acting decisively in bringing these suspects to book. The suspects may be involved with other cable thefts in the area and are being processed for further investigation.
“This kind of theft has to be reported. We do not recommend residents intervene in any way but rather report any suspicious behaviour to their Local SAPS department. This is a serious criminal offense and offenders will be arrested immediately,” he says.
Here is a number that can be contacted directly by the community and security will be sent out to investigate the cases and report the matter to the SAPS:
