Sydney Mavundla Quartet to grace the Jazzahead! Stage

Award-winning South African trumpeter and singer Sydney Mavundla has been selected to perform at Jazzahead! 2026 in Bremen, Germany. He will give a series of performances from 24–26 April 2026 at different venues during the festival.

Best Jazz Album winner at the 9th MJA
Every year MJA creates opportunities for the winners of the prestigious awards, in partnership with global partners across the world, to perform on global stages, showcasing the caliber of the music in Mzantsi. Sydney won the Best Jazz Album category in 2025 edition of the awards and as such qualified for recommendations. The MJA company is excited to have supported Sydney on this journey—showing the world the power of South African jazz!
Voices of Praise Jazz scholar and historian Simon Ndlovu calls Sydney “a true legend of South African jazz who never ceases to remind us why this art form is so important: alive, constantly evolving and deeply human.”
Celebrated jazz critic Gwen Ansell, writing about Sydney’s award-winning album Dirge for Our Fathers (Mzantsi Award 2025), said: “Sydney Mavundla is a gifted trumpeter… especially in the pure beauty of a ballad, his trumpet playing tears your heart out.”
