Friday 28 February and Saturday 1 March
Durban’s much-loved FLATFOOT DANCE COMPANY will perform two bespoke performances created especially for the KZNSA Gallery in Glenwood, titled HAPPENSTANCE on Friday 28 February and Saturday 1 March.
“HAPPENSTANCE is an evocative series of meetings and partings that trace contemporary relationships. “Happenstance” is a synonym for coincidence, accident, a chance event or encounter … but usually producing positive results,” explains FLATFOOT’s Artistic Director, Lliane Loots. “In this we invite the audience to journey with the dancers as they confront, meet and encounter one another in a display of beautiful soulful dance that resonates all that is possible when ‘happenstance’ becomes a powerful force for our individual and collective growth.”
FLATFOOT welcomes Nairobi based dancer Maulid Owino from Kenya’s DANCE INTO SPACE (DIS) for these performances. “We have a long partnership with DIS and are delighted to be deepening our encounters by hosting Owino during February 2025. Owino’s fluid grace and skill as a dancer will afford Durban audiences a rare glimpse of the power of these fragile and yet beautiful African connections.”
HAPPENSTANCE is created in a collaboration between Lliane Loots, Maulid Owino and the FLATFOOT dancers; Sifiso Khumalo, Jabu Siphika, Zinhle Nzama, Siseko Duba, Sbonga Ndlovu, and Ndumiso ‘Digga’ Dube.
Performing in the open-air spaces of the KZNSA, promises to provide a magnificent evening under the warm summer skies of Glenwood. The KZNSA Gallery and café will be open from 5.15pm for (selected menu) dinner, and a walk around the exhibition gallery.
Performance times are at 6.30pm on Friday 28 February and Saturday 1 March. Each performance has a limit of 100 audience members only. Early booking is advised. Bookings can be made via Clare on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
