This is the MTN SHIFT Gaming Experience 2024!

The HYPROP MTN SHIFT Gaming Experience continued its exhilarating journey at Rosebank Mall in Gauteng, where the gaming community came together for an unforgettable weekend of competition from 21 to 23 June 2024. As the largest national mall-based gaming tournament in South Africa, the event showcased incredible talent and crowned new champions in the EAFC tournament.

After a series of intense matches, the top three winners who emerged victorious in the EAFC tournament are:

  • 1st Place: Zaid April
  • 2nd Place: Riaasat Ebrahim
  • 3rd Place: Aqil Sampath

Zaid April showed his gaming prowess and has secured his spot in the national finale, scheduled for 11 to 15 September 2024 at Canal Walk in Cape Town, where the finalists will vie for the ultimate title and a share of the grand prize pool.

Highlights from Rosebank Mall

Rosebank Mall was abuzz with excitement as gamers and fans alike immersed themselves in the vibrant atmosphere. The EAFC tournament was the epicentre of the event, but there was plenty more on offer to captivate attendees. Virtual racing enthusiasts pushed their limits in thrilling GT 7 Races challenges; while battles raged with players engaged in strategic and high-octane Fortnite duels. There were Fighting Game Face-offs where competitors showcased their prowess in action-packed fighting game matches and players demonstrated their creativity and survival skills in engaging Minecraft challenges.

Reflecting on the event’s success, Muhammad Varchia, General Manager of Rosebank Mall, shared his thoughts: “We are absolutely thrilled with the turnout and the vibrant atmosphere at Rosebank Mall this weekend. The HYPROP MTN SHIFT Gaming Experience brought together a diverse group of gamers and spectators, creating a buzz that was palpable throughout the mall. It’s wonderful to see so much enthusiasm and talent, and we are proud to be part of an event that is not only entertaining but also fostering community spirit. The event also featured a host of interactive activities, ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to be part of the gaming excitement:

  • Rocket League Matches: Players teamed up to score big in adrenaline-pumping Rocket League games.
  • Brawlhalla Tekken and Street Fighter Tournaments: Platform fighting fans enjoyed intense Brawlhalla action.
  • Aim Lab Challenges: Attendees tested their marksmanship in precision-based Aim Lab trials.
  • MTN Beat Saber Challenge: Visitors experienced the rhythm-based VR Game and the highest score over the weekend walked away with an Xbox Series S.
  • Keyboard Rebuild Race: A unique competition where participants raced to rebuild keyboards for exciting prizes.

Spectators were treated to numerous giveaways and the chance to engage with the latest gaming technologies and experiences.

  • Clearwater Mall Online Qualifier: 7-Jul
  • Clearwater Mall WM Event: 12 to 14 Jul
  • Woodlands Boulevard Online Qualifier: 14-Jul
  • Woodlands Boulevard Event: 19 to 21 Jul
  • Table Bay Mall Online Qualifier: 4-Aug
  • Table Bay Mall Event: 9 to 11 Aug
  • Capegate Online Qualifier: 18-Aug
  • Capegate Event: 23 to 25 Aug
  • Canal Walk Online Qualifier: 8-Sep
  • Canal Walk Event: 11 to 15 Sep

These events will continue to deliver not only the main EAFC tournament but also a variety of other gaming competitions and activities that promise fun and excitement for all.

Grand Finale and Prizes

The stage is set for the grand finale at Canal Walk, where the best of the best will compete for the ultimate glory and a share of the R50,000 prize pool:

  • 1st Place: R25,000
  • 2nd Place: R15,000
  • 3rd Place: R7,500
  • 4th Place: R2,500
