Cape Town’s second of six Starbucks stores opens in Cavendish Square

Claremont is officially home to Starbucks, with the second Cape Town store launched at Cavendish Square on Saturday. This is the latest in a total of six Starbucks stores opening in the Mother City before 15 December.

Adrian Maizey, CEO of Rand Capital, the licensee of Starbucks in South Africa, describes the Starbucks Cavendish store design as “incorporating shades of green with touches of gold to represent the lushness and sophistication of the surrounding southern suburbs.” Customers are invited to visit the store to enjoy the Starbucks Holiday menu including a wide selection of handcrafted seasonal beverages. The store is located on the ground floor of the centre, next to H&M.

Maizey says, “We’re proud to bring the Starbucks brand to such a globally loved city – with six brand new stores strategically located around the city and in Stellenbosch. We have no doubt that the Cape Town market will use their local store as ‘The Third Place’ – a space away from home and the office to work and gather with family and friends. As with every Starbucks store around the world, our Cape Town customers will enjoy a delicious cup of coffee in a warm and welcoming environment.”

Teddy Nzama, Starbucks 2019 Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Barista Champion and a coffee enthusiast says the Starbucks ethos ensures that employees – called partners – are at the heart of the Starbucks experience. “Starbucks helped me grow my love and passion for coffee. As partners we should make our customers’ day. I always remember what this one customer told me the first time I made their coffee: please make sure the coffee is perfect, I only drink one cup of coffee and that cup of coffee decides my day… it was a good cup of coffee.”

Starbucks coffee is 99% ethically sourced and accredited by Conservation International under the C.A.F.E. Practices programme. The first Starbucks to open in Cape Town was in Canal Walk, and upcoming openings include Tyger Valley Shopping Centre in Bellville, Camps Bay, V&A Waterfront, and Stellenbosch – all opening by 12 December 2020.
