Crocworld Relaunches Edutainment Talks with Special Frogging Evening, Hosted by Dr Jeanne Tarrant

It’s time to bring back an old favourite: The Crocworld Adventure & Conservation Centre talks! The popular programme of edutaining talks will start with Reflections from the Field: Twenty Years of Amphibian Conservation on Saturday, 10 October 2026. Renowned amphibian conservationist Dr Jeanne Tarrant (AKA South Africa’s Frog Lady) enlightens visitors at Fish Eagle Café before leading a frog walk through the wetland areas.

“Crocworld has always been about connecting people with the natural world, and these edutainment evenings allow us to take that a step further,” says Susan Badat, Manager of Crocworld Adventure & Conservation Centre.

“We want people to leave entertained, but also having learnt something new and developed a greater appreciation for the wildlife around them. Starting with frogs is particularly exciting because these incredible animals play such an important role in our ecosystems, yet are often overlooked.”

Meet South Africa’s ‘Frog Lady’

Dr Tarrant has spent two decades working to protect threatened amphibians and their habitats across southern Africa. She is Director of Anura Africa and Regional Chair for Southern Africa of the IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group, and established and led the Endangered Wildlife Trust’s Threatened Amphibian Programme for 12 years – protecting South Africa’s most threatened frog species.

Her contribution to amphibian conservation has received international recognition. In 2020, she received the prestigious Whitley Award, often referred to as the ‘Green Oscar’, presented following a highly competitive selection process and featured in a film narrated by David Attenborough. In 2024 she was also a finalist in the Rolex Awards for Enterprise - part of the Rolex Perpetual Planet initiative – selected from more than 1 500 applicants worldwide.

Beyond her scientific work, Dr Tarrant is passionate about public education. She is the author of My First Book of Southern African Frogs and created the annual Leap Day for Frogs awareness campaign. This Crocworld talk continues her public education, which will include a Q&A session, followed by the wetland walk.

Saturday Buffets at Fish Eagle Café

Crocworld’s Fish Eagle Café also has Saturday morning breakfast buffets hosted on select Saturdays during the month. This scrumptious meal is a great way to start any weekend!
