Duxbury Networking has released a wireless telephony system targeted at companies requiring coverage across several floors or throughout large buildings. The Snom M700 multicell system, based on the DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) standard, is scalable up to 40 base stations and up to 200 handsets can be linked to each base station  

“Like a microcosm of SA’s GSM-based cellular network infrastructures, the Snom system is designed to form a seamless corporate-wide network allowing free movement between base stations. Initiated calls continue uninterrupted while moving from one station to the next,” explains Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking.  

He says the system is geared to service entire office complexes covering large properties and estates. “Setup is intuitive, thanks to the integrated installation mode on the Snom M65 handsets. Because base stations effectively synchronise and install themselves, additional controller hardware is unnecessary.”  

The multicell solution supports optional Snom M5 repeaters (also featuring DECT encryption) to further increase reception range and to bridge gaps between base stations.   “Security is always a concern when wireless communication solutions are proposed,” adds Robb. “Snom has successfully addressed this issue via DECT encryption, while TLS [Transport Layer Security] and the SRTP [Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol] ensure secure SIP [Session Initiation Protocol] transmissions.”  

Key features of the system include ‘direct search’ functionality in the corporate directory and high definition (HD) audio. Based on Snom provisioning, the system is interoperable with all major VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) systems.   Available from Duxbury Networking’s accredited resellers and dealers, a Snom M700 base station is priced at R 2002-00 (ex Vat), while handsets are available from R 1499-00 (ex Vat).   [ENDS]
