Metacom, Africa’s premier provider of managed ICT and IoT solutions and services for the retail, financial services, and engineering sectors, has announced the strategic acquisition of Isenzo Broadcasting, effective 1 July 2025. This significant move is crucial to Metacom’s vision of becoming South Africa’s leading multimedia and analytics provider, further solidifying its position as Africa’s most trusted managed ICT solutions and services partner.
The multimillion-Rand deal builds on a close seven-year collaboration between the two companies. Isenzo Broadcasting, the architect behind the Metacom Multimedia Centre (MMC), has played a key role in shaping Metacom’s digital content management and analytics capabilities. The partnership, founded on mutual respect and technical synergy, has now evolved into a merger that promises to unlock new growth opportunities and further a bold shared vision for the market, benefiting both companies, their stakeholders and customers.
With this acquisition, Metacom will integrate Isenzo’s innovative multimedia and analytics solutions, significantly enhancing its technology solutions portfolio. The integration will not only bring new capabilities to their existing clients but also open expansive new opportunities for potential partners. The company expects to gain access to new client relationships and accelerate its expansion in both emerging and established markets across Africa.
Réan van Niekerk, CEO of Metacom, says: “This acquisition represents a pivotal step in Metacom’s vision for the retail industry, which designs, builds and supports The Store of the Future. Isenzo’s proven expertise in multimedia and analytics for the retail sector perfectly complements our core strengths in managed connectivity and enterprise ICT solutions. Together, we will deliver a more intelligent, data-driven retail experience - seamlessly integrating network infrastructure, analytics, and customer engagement technologies.
“For our clients, the value is significant; this partnership will accelerate innovation at the edge of the network, enabling retailers to gain richer insights, enhance customer experience, and drive operational efficiency across thousands of connected sites.”
“Significantly, the acquisition expands Metacom’s reach into new markets and solution areas, reinforcing our position as a trusted leader in the digital transformation of commerce across the African continent. Our commitment to progressive digital transformation is a testament to our dedication to progress.”
As part of the transition, Isenzo co-founders Peter Robson and Peter Scholtz have joined Metacom full-time. They will lead the newly formed Multimedia Systems development team, bringing their extensive industry experience to drive further innovation and ensure seamless integration of Isenzo’s platform and expertise, instilling confidence and excitement in the company’s future.
Peter Robson commented, “The culture fit with Metacom has just been perfect for us. After years of working together and seeing how our technologies and teams complement each other, it became clear that joining forces was the logical next step. Metacom gives us the scale, stability, and collaborative environment to keep innovating, while we bring deep expertise and a passion for engineering robust, locally relevant solutions. It’s rare to find a partner whose values align so closely with your own - and that’s what makes this merger so exciting.”
Over the coming month, Metacom will introduce Peter Robson and Peter Scholtz across the business, welcoming them into the Metacom family as they take on leadership roles in multimedia systems development.
While the financial terms of the acquisition remain confidential, the investment reflects Metacom’s deep commitment to shaping the future of retail technology in Africa and beyond. Industry analysts note that the acquisition ideally positions Metacom to capture the growing demand for digital multimedia and analytics in retail, providing the scale, technology, and talent to lead in a competitive, rapidly evolving market.
