How to Choose the Right Polypropylene Woven Bag
Written by: SEOPros Save to Instapaper
Choosing the right polypropylene (PP) woven bag is not simply a matter of finding one that is big enough. The bag must protect your product, handle the required weight and remain reliable throughout storage and transport. PP woven bags are commonly used for grain, seeds, animal feed, fertiliser, construction materials and many other agricultural and industrial products.
According to Trunel Bags, the best place to start is by looking at what the bag will carry and how it will be used.
Consider the Product
Different products have different packaging needs. Grain and fresh produce may benefit from a breathable bag, while maize meal, flour and fine powders need a tighter construction to prevent leaking. Products that are sensitive to moisture may also require a laminated bag or an inner liner for added protection.
Choose the Right Size
Think about how much product each bag must hold and how it will be filled. A correctly sized bag is easier to close, stack and transport. It also reduces pressure on the seams.
Overfilling a bag can cause tearing, product loss and handling difficulties, so it is important to choose a practical capacity rather than relying on guesswork.
Check the Material Strength
PP woven fabric comes in different weights and weave densities. These factors affect how much weight and rough handling the bag can withstand. Heavy, sharp or abrasive materials usually need stronger fabric and reinforced stitching. Lighter products may not need such a heavy-duty option.
Decide Whether Lamination Is Necessary
Unlaminated PP woven bags allow air to move through the fabric, which can be useful for certain agricultural products. Laminated bags provide better protection against moisture and help keep fine particles inside. The right choice will depend on the product and its storage conditions.
Think About Sun Exposure
If the bags will be stored outdoors, ask about UV protection. South Africa’s strong sunlight can weaken untreated polypropylene over time. UV-stabilised material is a sensible choice when bags are likely to spend long periods outside.
Consider Closures and Printing
The way a bag is filled and emptied will influence the type of opening and closure required. Options may include stitching, tying or heat sealing. Custom printing can also be used to display your logo, product details, handling instructions and safety information.
A reliable supplier can help you match the bag’s size, fabric weight, lamination and construction to your application. By considering these details upfront, you can avoid damaged bags, wasted products and unnecessary packaging costs.
