The Surging Appeal Of Cape Town’s Peninsula Coastline Is Driving New Development

For decades, the Peninsula coastline was Cape Town’s hidden gem, but during the past few years, this stunning stretch of coast has witnessed a remarkable surge in popularity, transforming it into a vibrant region and a coveted destination for property investment, precipitating a proliferation of new development.
This is according to Nancy Massing, Managing Director of the Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty Cape Peninsula franchise, who says: “Cape Town is blessed with abundant natural beauty and, for many locals the goal is to eventually move closer to the water, but for upcountry and foreign buyers, this is often the holy grail which has driven prices up in many areas such as the Atlantic Seaboard.
“However, areas like the False Bay coastal strip, flew under the radar for many years but this is changing as more and more buyers are becoming aware of the unique appeal and comparable value the region still offers.
“Comparatively, property prices along the Peninsula coastline are still more affordable than in some of the city's more central or affluent coastal suburbs like Camps Bay or Clifton which makes it an attractive option for first-time homebuyers, young families, and investors looking for value and potential appreciation.
“It also boasts a very wide property selection to suit most budgets and each suburb has a unique charm. For instance, in Muizenberg, which is known as surfer’s paradise, it’s still possible to buy a three-bedroom family home within walking distance of the beach for around R3 million.
“And at the other end of the scale, a designer home with mountain and sea views in an eco-estate in Noordhoek can be bought for around R13.5m. And in between lies a whole range of options and characterful suburbs, including Kommetjie, Scarborough, Fish Hoek, St James and Kalk Bay which was nominated by Forbes as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world.”
Massing adds that there’s been a notable uptick in enquiries across the whole Cape Peninsula from Muizenberg through to Noordhoek and that estate homes are fast becoming the most popular property option, especially with upcountry buyers who are flocking to the Western Cape.
“This has precipitated a sharp rise in development in the region, and there are now estates to suit all budgets and lifestyle needs, from architectural masterpieces in exclusive enclaves to low-maintenance retirement properties.”
One such development is Fynbos Village which recently broke ground. Situated on the slopes of Noordhoek Valley, Phase One of four is well underway with the completion date in mid-2025.
Comprised of luxury sectional title luxury townhouses and apartments accessibly priced from
R1.99m to R3.05m and designed with integrated sustainability in mind, Fynbos offers exceptional value. With its accessible pricing and property options, it’s also an excellent estate for multi-generational living.
Each unit boasts a modern open-plan design with a unique indoor/outdoor flow complemented by the surrounding fynbos and features include sustainable landscaping, a solar-powered geyser and high-end fittings and fixtures.
Set on 3.4 hectares of indigenous landscaping, estate facilities and amenities include a clubhouse with dining and bar, a heated indoor swimming pool and an indigenous fynbos reserve with ponds. Residents will enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains and Noordhoek beach.
Peace of mind is afforded by a manned guardhouse and CCTV surveillance, continuous security patrols, security gates with back-up generators and electrified perimeter fencing.
“The estate is only a short drive to Long Beach Mall and medical suites and its convenient
location opens up a world of leisure possibilities, from golf, hiking, cycling and surfing to wine tasting and many excellent restaurants and cafes with Kommetjie, Fish Hoek and Glencairn beaches all within a 5km radius,” says Massing.
“It’s unique to be able to enjoy this type of lifestyle whilst also being in close proximity to all the amenities of the Cape Town CBD, the Southern suburbs and the Atlantic seaboard.”
She adds that Fynbos Village is not just excellent value when compared to comparable areas but also within the area, especially as levies are very good in relation to levies in other estates in the region.
The Peninsula coastline boasts an unparalleled blend of natural beauty, outdoor recreational amenities and a relaxed coastal lifestyle and, as the appeal of coastal living continues to grow, this scenic coastal strip is emerging as a standout destination for those seeking a harmonious blend of natural beauty, vibrant community and prime real estate opportunities.
