Rust-Oleum South Africa Announces Recall of Spraymate Cold Galvanising Spray Paint

URGENT PRODUCT SAFETY NOTICE – Spraymate Cold Galvanising Spray Paint

Rust-Oleum South Africa is conducting a voluntary product recall of certain batches of its specialised Spraymate Cold Galvanising Spray Paint (SKU: 2701), a protective coating used to prevent rust and corrosion on metal surfaces.

This recall follows a small number of reports that some aerosol cans may discharge their contents unexpectedly during normal use. Preliminary investigation suggests this may be linked to a potential manufacturing irregularity in the canister supplied by a third party.

No significant injuries have been reported, Rust-Oleum South Africa is acting out of an abundance of caution to ensure consumer safety. The affected products are being removed from shelves while a comprehensive quality inspection is carried out.

The recall applies only to the following batch numbers:

• 2701-2116
• 2701-2223
• 2701-2381

The cans bearing the above batch numbers were manufactured between April and September 2025.

The batch number is printed on the top of the aerosol can, beneath the cap, next to the nozzle. No other Spraymate or Rust-Oleum products are affected by this recall.

If you have purchased Spraymate Cold Galvanising Spray Paint, please take the following steps:

1. Stop Using the Product: Discontinue use immediately.
2. Check the Batch Number: Confirm whether the batch number on your product matches one of those listed above.
3. Return the Product Safely:
   • Place the can upright in a cardboard box or container that ensures the can remains upright and transport it in the boot of your vehicle.
   • Return it to the retailer where it was purchased to receive a full refund.
