Tradition of Excellence Continues as St Benedict's Celebrates Exceptional Matric Results

St Benedict's College has once again demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence, with its Class of 2024 achieving outstanding matric results. A total of 110 learners produced an impressive 256 distinctions, equating to a distinction ratio of 2.33 per matriculant. The cohort also achieved an overall average of 71.5%, a strong reflection of their dedication and the school’s supportive learning environment.
Exceptional Achievements in the Class of 2024
Key Highlights:
- 99.1% of learners qualified for tertiary studies, with 94.6% attaining Bachelor Degree passes.
- 13 subjects exceeded IEB national averages.
- Nine learners achieved seven or more distinctions.
- 11 students ranked in the top 1% nationally within a subject.
Top Achievers
- Dylan Topham, the top achiever, earned an average of 92.3% with eight distinctions. His achievements include top marks in Mathematics (96%) and IT (96%). He plans to study Computer Science or Engineering.
- Shaldon Moodley achieved a 91.3% average with seven distinctions, excelling in Mathematics (97%) and Life Sciences (92%). He aims to pursue Actuarial Science, Biomedical Engineering, or Energy Engineering.
- Raahil Ranchod and Matthew Joubert also achieved eight distinctions, with averages of 89% and 86.1%, respectively.
Recognitions and Awards
- Dylan Topham featured on the IEB Outstanding Achievers’ List (Top 5% nationally in six subjects).
- Shaldon Moodley and Marciano Teixeira were on the IEB Commendable Achievers List (Top 5% nationally in five subjects).
Academic Excellence Across the Board
Subjects with notable results include:
- Dramatic Arts: 82% average with nine distinctions from 12 learners.
- Information Technology: 78.62% average with 19 distinctions.
- Mathematics: 70.78% average with 34 distinctions.
Nurturing Talent Beyond Academics
The school is proud of its students' ability to balance academics with extracurricular excellence:
- Parth Patel represented Cricket South Africa while achieving an 82.3% average with five distinctions.
- Giacomo Riccardi, who earned three distinctions, represented South Africa in rowing.
